Keeping things cheap, cool spots to go, places to avoid !!? Thank u!!!!!
there are several resources for low income housing in seattle but most of them are going to require you to get on a waitlist. here’s a good website for that
a lot of people do house shares in the university district/ravenna/etc are (more north seattle) and i’m sure there are some facebook groups to find roommates
if ur queer there is the seattle queer housing group on fb but i swon to john if you’re not queer dont even think about trying to join or i will find you and remove you myself
there are buy nothing groups on facebook for like every district in the city so that’s nice
apply for food stamps and if u qualify and receive them you get extra money at farmers markets and the like. june-october you can get like $10 extra and nov-may there are some places that will give u half off all produce (a few stands at pike place do this, it’s the best, their office will help you out)
you can apply for the orca link pass which is cheaper bus fare it is suuuuper easy to do like they got me mine within ten minutes and it takes bus fare from $2.25-3 to $1.50 for everything and a monthly pass is $50
on the first thursday of every month entrance to the seattle art museum is free and all the galleries in pioneer square stay open a lot later
any business with more than 100 employees is going to pay $15 an hour at least. smaller businesses are not required to pay that much yet, i think theyre around $11-$12
cool spots/places to avoid:
i love pike place (not pikes place) and like ive lived here most of my life feel free to be a tourist its a really fun environment and theres a lot of good food, my favorite restaurant ever is a block away on 1st and virginia its called le pichet and if u can eat dairy and bread please go there and enjoy for me i miss it so much every day. el borracho is literally right about the market and they have $1 taco happy hour and its ideal
theres this cool park above the convention center that i really like
capitol hill (dont call it cap hill, call it the hill if anything) has a lot of cool shit my favorite bars are montana, sun liquor’s distillery, big marios pizza is great, blah blah. lotta good food. plum bistro is a really amazing fancy vegan restaurant, ba bar is a bit out of the way but super yummy, hana is great, roy st coffee is this cafe i recently fell in love with and its like owned by starbucks but its so nice lmao really good coffee its fucking huge and all the seats are comfy. elliott bay bookstore rules and its right next to cal anderson park which is The place to sit and chill in summer, molly moons is this killer ice cream place which is also right around the corner
dont bother with the space needle the columbia tower has a better view anyway lmao
madison valley beach owns its a grassy waterfront, really nice in the summer. i dont bother with alki beach or golden gardens or whatever
there are very few times ive felt unsafe here, idk… i live like right on the border of the international district and pioneer square and my friend got mugged here a few months back, a few folks i know have gotten mugged in belltown, it’s what it’s. just be smart and you’ll be fine. there’s a lot of cool shit in all three of the places mentioned above so like live your life
northern seattle is gonna be more residential so theres ballard, fremont, ravenna, etc. ballard is like. its very Quirky and also they hate poor people theres like one bus that goes to ballard and its always late but theres some good food up there. if you go further north you get to shoreline/northgate/etc and it’s gonna be a Commute to get into seattle proper but definitely much cheaper
you should also look into west seattle because it rules and it’s like basically its own little city but much more chill and much cheaper
greenlake park is my favorite place on planet earth maybe
