I finished the book Yani, and it was a great read! Even if I speed read it, I got really hooked and shed a little tear in the end l.
I do understand why it has won awards and why it’s being filmed. It will make a great coming of age drama comedy about being a first- or second generation immigrant in the southern suburbs of Stockholm.
The character Sebbe, the youth counselor at the recreation center, is fantastic: very kind and caring, a forceful light in the life’s of the immigrant kids. A Swedish young adult with blond hair and light skin that always needs sunscreen.
“I knew that the recreation center was the right place and I knew that Sebbe would help us. Yani, the recreation center was Sebbe's home and we were his children, even if he hated us sometimes.”
“Sebbe was the best recreation leader, he was like a big brother. You could talk to him about anything. You could even cry in Sebbe's lap without feeling ashamed.”
“Sebbe was like a caring mother. He gave us the best and took the worst.”
I could definitely see Edvin play this character, and with flying colors! Sebbe is portrayed as charming, charismatic and confidence-inspiring, a softie with a backbone and high morals.
But Edvin probably has something els planned, and is just boosting the casting. Still, so glad I read the novel and had Edvin in mind as Sebbe all of the time!
We are not %100 sure if Yani is going to be shot, but I guess it is a strong possibility since it is a dramedy style of production and will be shot in Alby. Oh my, anon, you made me curious about the book!
The series is planned to be shot in the Summer 2025. Sebbe role is not a main, hence not much screentime. So, I cannot see a reason for Edvin to not do that, if it is planned already. He can still have lead/main role(s) for an uncoming production, and shoot Sebbe scenes in the summer.
The Sebbe description you made totally fits him and his energy! And it is quite different from the angsty teen roles he played. That is a heartwarming wholesome role! I like the idea!
