I've been welcomed into countless Ugandan homes, had plastic chairs appear from thin air to sit on, and have been served incredible meals and embraced by the warmest hospitality I could ever imagine. I have always hoped that someday I would have the opportunity to return the kindness and welcome my African family into my own home. Their first time in America and joining us in the first US home they've visited, Andrew and Ivan were strangers when they first walked through our door. Over plates of our "local food" they shared about their work in business and law as a journalist in Uganda and politician in Zambia. We discovered our mutual love both for country music and African musician, Eddy Kenzo, and exchanged stories on familiar places in the US and on the African continent. We discussed politics, policies, and economic development in all three of our countries and had an honest conversation about the challenges we face and the global influences on the places we call home.
