1911 building at 700 North Second Street
Note that the building from Souvenir Views is the original building, not the Richmond Beneficial building that still stands at 700 North Second Street, built in 1911, four years after the publication of the booklet. The picture shows the street number as 724. There is no precise source that states the location, however, a search of the Sanborn maps suggests that it was at 724 North Fifth Street because:
Richmond Beneficial was organized in 1894 by Reverend Wesley F. Graham, who was pastor of the Fifth Street Baptist Church, located at 629 North Fifth Street.
For the named streets, it would have to be East not West, and 700 would take it out of Jackson Ward.
There is no 724 on East Broad, East Marshall, East Grace, East Clay, East Leigh Streets.
No 700 block of East Jackson Street.
For the ordinal streets, there is a 724 North Second, but it is unmarked.
There is a 724 North Third but it is conjoined, while the picture clearly shows it as a free-standing building.
North Fourth Street has 722 and 726, but no 724.
There is no 724 on North Sixth or Seventh Streets.
724 North Eighth or Ninth Streets would have been in a ravine.
If better information exists, Rocket Werks is happy to be corrected.
