My Secret Samol gifts this year for @snailparent ! A cozy, domestic scene with Adaire/Hella/Adelaide (who are all equally helpful while cooking, of course), and a niche AU scenario for Pickman, who gets to steal my job as an elementary school reading tutor. I was told to draw the friends at the table butches, and I was sooooo happy to do so.

Secret Samol round 2! I volunteered to pinch hit for a fun request: ‘For a more esoteric approach I’d love to see an activation of some world altering magics…Chine’s cape billowing melting into colors.’

I’ll put all the details and process under the cut.

I wanted to evoke Sangfielle’s out-of-time artifact mines and molten metal river that forms items as part of the melting colors idea from the prompt. The imagery moves from linear quilted lines, a simple silhouette, and square cape patches into increasing wild and three dimensional swirls on an uneven checkerboard woven background with freeform borders.

I also snuck in an embroidered Shape.

Materials: mostly cotton over a felt base; fabric scraps from flannel shirts, vintage Rainbow Brite blanket, someone else’s Halloween costume, mystery fabrics; glass seed beads, plastic crystal beads, mystery red stone beads (a lot of my stuff is second hand, hence all the mystery)

Techniques: machine quilting, hand sewing, weaving

For @roseth0rnz I have some Blue Jay + Benjamin gender exploration as teens and as adults!!! Blue Jay wants to be different than their dad, and Benjamin has seen his mom put on makeup so he totally knows what he’s doing! I LOVE thinking about these two growing up

My secret samol piece that I did for tapetraveler on bluesky, in which I faced my greatest artistic challenge; drawing two people interacting. In the end i was pretty happy with how it turned out.
