Her first mission, and she had failed.
It hadn’t been what Zay had expected when she had envisioned joining the Resistance; instead of being thrust into a battle, the Inferno Squad was sent to gather their allies scattered across the Outer Rim. It wasn’t as easy as it seemed on the surface. Seeing the home of the Senate reduced to nothing should’ve been more than enough for their allies to finally join the fight, but it only seemed to scare them further; she hadn’t been able to convince anyone to answer the Resistance’s call on Crait.
She could’ve blamed the tight time-constraint, but it would’ve been a cop out. Most of the Resistance perished within days of her joining, and she hadn’t been able to do a single thing to help. Zay itched to get back into the action, to do anything to repent. Technically they were only one person short of the small group that took down the Star Destroyer Retribution; certainly they could take down the First Order fleet from the inside themselves.
When they finally managed to regain contact with the Resistance, General Leia was reluctantly inclined to agree. If they couldn’t get anyone else on their side, they were on their own with limited options, after all. In hopes of increasing their odds, Leia suggested they work with a team she knew from her Rebellion days, headed by someone by the name Starkiller.
As the small ship they managed to trade in for the conspicuous TIE fighter they were previously travelling in landed at the rendezvous point, Zay noticed another, larger ship already there. Exiting off the lowered ramp, Zay headed towards the young man that was waiting, tilting her head to the side as he seemed a little young to have participated in the last war. Maybe Starkiller was another person? ❝ Hi, Zay Meeko, Inferno Squad, ❞ Zay introduced once she was within range, holding out her hand. ❝ I’m at the right place, right? ❞ she joked lightly, because things were about to get real complicated quickly if she wasn’t.
