star wars’ ladies of colour: commander iden versio
Iden Versio was a TIE fighter pilot who later became Commander of Inferno Squad, an Imperial Special Forces unit assembled by her father in the wake of the Battle of Scarif and the destruction of the Death Star. With the Empire until the Contigency was activated, unleashing Operation: Cinder on her home planet, she then went rogue with fellow Inferno Squad member, Del Meeko. Aiding Princess Leia Organa on Naboo, they eventually joined the Rebel Alliance and fought with them up till the Battle of Jakku, and thirty years later aided the Resistance.

Anakin was unsure of accepting such a postage before, feeling that as if he did not earn his dues. But, he had proved his resourcefulness time and time again, so he was told. The young Jedi Solo was tasked with going to the few places only a Solo could get into. Aside from advantages of his name, he had learned from both his mother and father, in more ways than he could name.
Anakin read over the last of the diagnostics before, nodding to her, “ May the force be with us all. Jump to hyperspace.”
It was a common phrase, but it wasn’t one that Zay had heard or spoken often; she never really had much contact with others outside of her family, and her mom wasn’t particularly believing in the Force despite her dad being the opposite. So to hear it being said made things…real, and it lit up something inside of Zay, made her feel empowered and eager to go as Anakin gave the order. With a flip of a switch, a few button presses and the slow pushing of a lever, their ship raised off the ground and soon exited D’Qar’s atmosphere, where the lights of the stars soon streaked into long, fast-moving rays as they entered hyperspace.
❝ So far so good, ❞ Zay said as she checked to make sure all systems weren’t failing. ❝ Do you think now’s a good time to talk? Or maybe you’re not a talker and General Organa add you to Inferno Squad for something other than your speaking skills? ❞ Zay asked as she turned towards Anakin.
inferno-three:
“You know, I wasn’t quite so gray until you came along — perhaps that says something.”
❝ Perhaps it says you’re getting old, dad. I think you look very distinguished, though! ❞
continued from here || @inferno-two
That was true, in a sense. Zay really only had the words of her parents to go by, but she trusted them and knew nothing of the man before her. That was also the reason why she had wanted to speak with Hask, to learn the reasoning behind why he did what he did. ❝ So tell me. Tell me why you’re right and my parents are wrong. ❞

❝ What’s life without a little excitement, right? ❞

Iden laughed at their scuffling and made her way over to them. Zay was sharp, and she always seemed to notice when Iden was hanging back. Sometimes she just liked watching the people she loved. She leaned to kiss Del’s cheek before picking up a sandwich and made a considering face.
“Zay might be on to something. We could make the Corvus a restaurant,” she said with a grin, bumping Del’s hip with hers. He smiled, but shook his head.
“Maybe,” he said, the same thing he always said, because as nice as that sounded, well, he had to much work to do.
“Yeah, Dio can watch. They could probably learn from you,” Iden joked, earning an indignant burble from the droid hovering nearby.
It was a little ironic that for all her wanting to be independent and show how grown up she was, Zay always wanted her family nearby, never wanted to leave them behind. She grinned as her mom approached and interacted with her dad, taking another bite of her sandwich before nodding as he mom agreed with her. ❝ See, sometimes I have good ideas, ❞ Zay pointed out, but knew her dad was just humouring them as always.
Laughing at Dio’s response, she leaned in to whisper to them. ❝ Don’t worry Dio, we’ll get her back for that, ❞ Zay promised before clapping excitedly and interacting with the console. ❝ Let’s do this! ❞ With that, what remained of her sandwich was forgotten as she started on the decryption. ❝ If there’s one thing they’re good at, it’s encryption, ❞ Zay muttered as she worked, but that was a given considering the technology they had.

Anakin was huried to deal with his greif, only jsut gotten his father back only to feel him fade away. Times were changing, the darkness felt less but would soon be pushing back. The resiistance eneded allies and their job was to find and rally the scattered masses. Blue was a comfort in his own way and quickly familarized itself with the ships systems, plugging in just fof the side.
He lifted his head up, realizing that he was Captain Solo at this point; his father would smile to himself. Anakin had reservations, about taking hold of someone else ship and overstepping others in the resistance, but, he was ready for this and he had asked to be sent to the fight. Maybe with this rank and opportunity, he might be able to do his part. “ Looks like everything is locked down good and tight. Sound off for people to grab hold of something. Let’s get her in the air and in Hyperspace. “
Eyebrows raised expectantly when Anakin had looked up at the title she had referred to him as; she wasn’t sure if she had gotten his rank wrong or if there was a story behind his reaction or both, but she smiled warmly as he went back to finishing the pre-flight check. Nodding as he gave the go ahead, Zay put on a headset before flipping a switch to speak over the intercom.
❝ This is your co-pilot speaking: all systems are clear. We are T-minus ten seconds away from lift off. Please strap yourselves in and prepare for a ride. Inferno Squadron, out. ❞ Zay looked over at Anakin once she was finished, ready for whatever he had planned next. ❝ On your command, Captain Solo. Let’s rally those allies and show the First Order what hope can accomplish. They won’t know what hit ‘em. ❞
imperapristini:
“I am just HOPING I’ll live long enough to see the end of this war,” she said, making a light of this situation; though, there were truths to her words. She wasn’t as young as she used to be, didn’t move as fast as she did during her PRIME. Her daughter’s words from days ago drifted back into her mind, shuddering ever so slightly, but there was no denying the fact that she is indeed old. At least, the determination she had just like when she was younger was still there, coursing in her veins with such intensity to the point where renewed energy SURGES through her.
Such wise words coming from her daughter, she certainly got that from her FATHER. She hoped her daughter DIDN’T inherit any of her recklessness, but knowing her, her fear may be true. But no matter, at least she was still here to give her an earful if she ever decide to do something she wouldn’t have done when she was her age. Giving Zay another look, her heart broke again at the sight of her little one subtly pulling her father’s jacket around herself tighter. At least she can take in some comfort that Hask is GONE, by her hands especially.
“Hey now, what’s WRONG with the one you have right now?” she teased in return after Zay’s words brought her out from her thoughts, shooting her another look but one of amusement this time. With their guards back up - one can NEVER be too careful - they continued to take a look around.
“We should hurry before we have more company to DEAL with, and I’m pretty sure Shriv is getting bored without us.”
❝ You will; I’ll make sure of it, ❞ Zay said with a smile to continue the lighthearted attempt, even though her tone was firm. It wasn’t a promise, it was a fact. Zay would see that her mother lived through this; she refused to lose another parent. She joked and groaned about her mother’s age, but she knew better than anyone just how strong her mom was. Whatever Iden lacked in youth, strength and speed Zay would make up for it, balance them out. They had already proven to balance each other out pretty well thus far; she could even calm the storm that would sometimes rise in her mom when Iden didn’t bother to contain it.
❝ Nothing’s wrong with the one I have now; I meant for you. I know you like to pick things up sometimes; y’know, use their own weapons against them, ❞ she both corrected and teased. Taking her mother’s comment as not being interested in that, though, and not finding what she was looking for in terms of communications, Zay sighed as she got back up to her feet.
❝ I didn’t think anyone out in the battlefield would have pertinent information but it was worth a try. ❞ They either needed one alive or needed to sneak into or onto…something. Letting out a laugh, she grinned at her mom. ❝ Definitely more the latter than the former. Whatever will Shriv do without us bringing excitement into his life? ❞
Swinging her sniper rifle around so that it was in her hands again, Zay nodded at her mom. ❝ I’ve got your back. ❞
infernosquadrn:
Iden always felt the loss of Del or Zay acutely, but the ache was tempered by the sight of Zay colliding with Del. She didn’t make any effort to hide a smile. Those two were close-knit, and she was glad of it. She never had a father she felt she could just… talk to, or spend time with. That Zay had that… well, that was at least one thing she did right.
“Zay! Iden! Of course I didn’t start without you,” Del said with a grin, ruffling Zay’s helmet-hair and tucking her against his side. “You’d never forgive me otherwise.”
He waved a hand at three plates on the edge of the console glowing blue.
“Real food. And real work. No getting Dio,” he told her, mock-stern.
❝ Dad! ❞ Zay groaned playfully as Del messed up her already tousled hair, but the smile and laugh that followed the drawn out syllable showed there was no heat behind the word. ❝ I’d always forgive you, Dad…eventually, ❞ she added with a wink before turning to wave her mom over from where she stood still by the elevator. It hadn’t been the first time she noticed her mom just hanging back and watching them interact, but it was always more fun when it was all of them together.
❝ I think you missed your true calling, ❞ she said as she took a bite of the prepared sandwich and closed her eyes as she savoured the taste. ❝ The restaurant idea can still happen, y’know. ❞ It was something Zay often teased her dad about, opening his own restaurant somewhere because he was such an amazing cook.
❝ Hey, I only asked Dio for help once! And they barely did anything! Can they watch at least? ❞
secrxtapprentixe:
Life after the Empire had been kind to Starkiller and his team. Sure, Kota had remained with the Rebellion but the old Jedi had remained in touch with Galen and Juno and Kota was their source of information about what was happening with the Republic. The news of the First Order did cause the two Jedi to worry; they’d barely taken down the Empire with the help of Luke so yeah, they had good reason to worry.
However, neither Galen or Juno expected to be contacted by Leia once more and being told that someone from Inferno Squad (whatever it was) would be dropping by for unexplained reasons. Either way, Starkiller was kind of looking forward to meeting this person though he figured he’d better look the part. Hence why he dressed back in his Jedi Adventure Robes that Kota had given him years ago. The white robes had seen their fair share of trouble and yet they remained as useful as the day he got them.
When he heard the woman speaking, he turned around and with a polite nod (or as polite as Starkiller could be) he greeted the younger woman before shaking her hand. “Yeah, this is the right place. General Organa sent you, right? Then you should let her know that Juno Eclipse is already on her way to wherever they are. You’re just missing PROXY and me.” The Jedi paused, pointed at the old holo-droid that was walking towards them. “I’m Starkiller. Or Galen Marek, whichever name you prefer, I’m him.”
Something in Zay relaxed in relief at hearing those six words that confirmed she did not just walk into a trap; she didn’t need to have failed ( and possibly died ) before her second mission even really started. ❝ Yes, the General sends her regards. She had nothing but high accolades for you and your team; I look forward to experiencing working with you first hand! I’ll be sure the General gets your message regarding Juno, ❞ Zay added, nodding over at Dio who was hovering by her right shoulder to make sure Shriv did just that.
❝ Oh, and this is Dio. Shriv’s also a member of Inferno Squad; he’s back in the transport I came in. Depending on how we want to play this, he’s here if we need him. ❞ The ID10 seeker droid beeped its greetings to both Galen or PROXY, and Zay hummed in agreement at what Dio trilled afterward. ❝ Yeah, I’ve never seen a holodroid either, Dio. ❞ It made the techno geek in her giddy to see something new; she couldn’t wait to interact with PROXY ( but not tinker with PROXY, of course, Zay respected and knew her boundaries ).
On that note, though, Zay never seen anyone dressed like Galen, either. She still couldn’t wrap her head around the fact that this man was in the last war. Maybe he was a child, like the kids stolen for Project Resurrection? She tilted her head almost comically as if the new perspective would reveal the origin of the outfit—she was showing her age here—but she soon cleared her throat and returned to a more professional outlook. ❝ Okay, then, Mr. Marek? ❞ Zay tried out, though she was instantly sure it would be crossed out as an option. Starkiller was a good code name, but after having only worked with family thus far, it seemed far more impersonal than she was used to, and using his first named seemed to forward of her, so this seemed like a good middle ground.
❝ I trust General Organa has filled you in on the mission details? Or shall that be our first order of business? ❞

Anakin was not given a chance to grieve, not even a chance to say goodbye, at least in a physical sense. That life had left his father’s body, and this spirit became one with the force, in it;’s own way. There was nothing he wanted more than fighting this war so that his family could be together again, but now it only seemed like there wouldn’t be an end to the death or destruction. There was a time when he thought he could save them all if only he got in the fight, but either way he couldn’t save his father.
Walking onboard the vessel, he had his duffel bag over his shoulder a Blue stripped BB8 Unit at his hip. “ Yeah, I’m sure the X-Wing was loaded well Blue.” He tells his droid as they scamper aboard the nostalgic vessel. “ This is so cool buddy.” He needed the distraction and being on here, however, infintile it felt was still good. The crew needed a Jedi, even if they didn’t know he was a Jedi. but his mom’s words did little to avert the feeling of being pushed off away from the true threat; Ben.
Coming upon the cockpit, he was severely seeing a woman, he thought would be many holders. For the moment, he realized he was frozen, “ Uh yes, I am a pilot."
Blue beeps at his side introducing himself with an animated head turn. ’ Hello ’
” That’s Blue.“ Dropping his bag as he took the pilots seat.
Anakin looked about as in awe and confused regarding the whirlwind of events that was happening as Zay felt. So she paid no mind when it seemed like he hadn’t heard half of what she had said—he heard the important bits in any case as he took his place on the pilot’s seat. Besides, small talk while in the middle of a base-wide evacuation with the First Order was hot on their heels probably wasn’t the best time. She could almost hear her mother’s voice in her head telling her to focus.
❝ Hi Blue, ❞ Zay greeted with a smile as she finished inputting their course and turned to face the droid. ❝ I’m Zay; you probably passed Shriv and Dio on your way in with a R2 series astromech. Are they with you? ❞ she addressed them both as she slid into the co-pilot’s seat next to him. ❝ I’ve already entered the navigation for our first destination, so we’re ready when you are, Captain! ❞
“The best way to find out if you can trust somebody is to trust them.”
