SECTION THREE: FINAL PROPOSAL SUMMARY (1.3)

SUMMARY STATEMENT 

The compounds project is going to be a short video installation piece that touches upon a range of different topics about digital disconnection & social grouping. It will consist of a short written piece that will be accompanied by a video stimulant.  It’s a fusion of different digital, creative & management elements. As this is a self initiated project, there will be room for iterative approach.

WHAT DOES THE PROJECT ENTAIL?

The project entails creating a short 3 - 5 min short film with a spoken word/poetry overlay along with an accompanying pamphlet to introduce the project and its aims. It will be a one time event & after reading through all the details i’ve decided to do the digital approach to my project. This is due to the time element to this project, planning a physical event would leave not to much time to evaluate and summarise the project. By doing it digitally, I can reach more people who are unable to make it, its convenience in their email to watch and participate when they have time.

COLLABORATORS? 

I did plan to collaborate with a sound student to help with sound mixes but after trying to reach out to the sound department, I got no response and therefore will be making the mix myself. Although I do understand the benefits of sharing the workload and collaborating with others within industry. If I had the chance to redo this project I would start looking for assistance earlier and maybe putting out ads or flyers for student help instead of depending on external factors

Proposal

When the project was first announced I had an initial panic as I was unsure of what I could create as I had a lot of extra commitments, such as my role as Design Editor of Pugwash Magazine. I then realised that the Editor of the publication would technically be a client and that the issues I had agreed to design could be used for this Creative Industries Project Management Unit. I was then enthusiastic to start the project and to learn some new software to add to my CV, as well as collaborating with and meeting new people. The client was happy to take me on board even though I had very little experience with magazine design and the programme InDesign. 

After getting involved with the start up of the society at Freshers Fayre, gathering members and a group of writers to create the content, I felt very involved and ready to get started designing each issue. I had various meetings, first with the writers to hear their ideas for articles, then with the client to ascertain exactly what they want from the publication. Meetings were arranged over social media, and I was given a log on to a dedicated gmail account passed on from the last Design Editor. In the google drive of this account, I can store all the images and content I need. 

Raising the awareness of Pugwash as a publication is one thing I hope to achieve by taking on this project, ensuring that everything designed is eye-catching and appealing to the student consumer base of 18 - 25 year old millennials that are used to getting their information online. I hope that I am able to design in such a way to reach this audience effectively. Combining the social media presence of the magazine and the existing website with the distribution of the finished issues I hope will have a positive impact on overall awareness. 

The majority of the programmes I will be using I have previous experience with, such as Illustrator and Photoshop. I hope that he knowledge I have of these will both help with the learning of InDesign and creating extra content, such as illustrations.

Project Initiation Proposal

Client: Tahmina Mughal

Brief Description: Tahmina runs a local cake business from home, she does this on the side and really wants to promote her business to people in the area. While being very talented, she does not only make cakes but also other sweet treats such as chocolate shoes and fruit decorations.

Needs of the Client: As the client already has a running website, she would like a promotional video to be featured on her site as well as a logo to make her brand more identifiable. She also feels that business cards will help promote her business as she can leave them around at weddings and also hand them to people to spread the word. She is not very internet savvy so would also like for me to create an Instagram page which shows images of her creations so people can follow and share

 .

What will the users gain?: The users can explore her website without getting a real feel of what Tahmina does. The video will show her organic approach and passion of cake making while also portraying her skills and talent. The instagram page will give users the opportunity to see what she does on the go. Rather than just words, Instagram is all about imagery and customers would prefer seeing something rather than reading words all about it. The business cards will benefit users as it gives them something to take away from the client, a sort of souvenir to remind them of what she does.

Resources and Softwares: Adobe Illustrator will be used to create the logo as I have some experience of this software. Moo.com will be used to create the business cards, Gmail will be used to keep in contact with the client on a professional level although I have the clients mobile number for quicker responses. The video will be filmed on a high quality phone camera and edited using Avid or potentially another if I struggle. A I do not have much experience with video editing, I may be using the help of other students to show me the basics of the software. Social media platform Instagram will be used to create an account for the client.

Project Initiation Proposal

Client: Jack Munsch (A Monsters Ville/FAZE ONE Media)

Brief Description: Jack is a music video producer & director who works for a company called FAZE ONE Media who produce short videos to promote smaller companies and up and coming artists.

Needs of the Client: The client would like a platform to advertise his videos and work. He feels a website and business card would be the ideal platform as he would be able to showcase his work and promote himself with the business card.

Skills Required and what will the user gain from the Project: The user will need a varied skill based for this project from designing logos to creating business cards. Extra tutorials and workshops will be taken by the user to ensure they have sufficient skills for the project. The user will gain many skills throughout the project, as a result of the tutorials and workshops. The user will also develop their project management and work flow management skills. The client will gain a professional website and business card that he will be able to use to promote his work and get work for himself. The use of the business cards will help traffic towards the website so potential clients will be able to speak to Jack about working together with him.

Assessed Artefact: Website, business card, logo, and social feeds.

Financial: Cost for website ranges from free to £10 a month, and business cards can vary from £10 to £30 depending on quality.

Client Specification: A functional website that shows and plays videos, a working gallery which showcases clients photography work. A simple yet sophisticated design to the website and the business cards.

Software/Hardware: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe After Effects, Dreamweaver and Moo.com

Copyright Issues: There should not be any copyright infringement however I will consistently check throughout the project to make sure there is no infringement.

Resources: There will be many different types of resources that will be used, the electronic resources that will be used will be, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe After Effects and Moo.com. All of these resources will be used to develop and design different artefacts for this project. Other resources that will be use is business cards, however this will be developed by a third party company I have taken this resource into consideration as I can delay the project if there is a problem with it.

Possible Risks: There is a risk with Computers and Software, they can tend to crash when used too much, I will make sure that I create regular backups of the clients work to prevent this risk. There also could be problems with the business cards, not printing properly.

Skills: Photoshop/Illustrator to design the website and logo for the client.

Section 3: Proposal

Proposal: 

Introduction: A website to be created in order to advertise and promote income for my clients photographs. The website will be personal and in depth in order for it to stand out to possible clients/consumers for Dave. In order to do this I will keep a constant communication between me and my client throughout the project. 

Statement of what the client wants:

- A website to show and sell his photographs

- Business Cards

- Facebook page

- Logo Created

- Instagram Account

Statement of whats gained: Through email and Facebook people will be able to contact for my client if they want a specific photograph taken or want a copy of one he has already taken. Visitors to the website will be able to view my clients photographs, as well as have the chance to purchase their favourites. Overall my client wants his photos to gain income and having them shared on websites and social media, will get them seen.
