She tilted her head. Her mind turned to the hordes lurking outside, somewhere, and to the thousands, millions, dead, and her voice turned to a snarl. “Look, they’re going to have to. We’re all going to die if we keep arguing amongst ourselves. If the snakes won’t shed their skins then we will peel them off, but it needs to happen. Luckily, I make robes, and you can use those to cover up. Sound good?”

"you’re in my head all day. i can’t concentrate."

Lily’s body went still, her breath catching in her throat when Sebastian’s hand gingerly clasped around hers. She’d come to regard him as someone steady to lean against, so quietly courageous and resolute, but right now, he was tentative in a way she’d quite never seen him act before, almost as though he was terrified his actions would scare her off. And she would be lying if she said her first instinct wasn’t to run away. Stripped away of all her bravado, she didn’t feel like a bold Gryffindor right now, just a girl who was absolutely petrified of being hurt ( again ). “I -- ” Lily started, for once not having a snappy retort to throw at him. She was close enough to kiss him, if she would only give in. “I don’t think we should -- look, it’s just -- complicated. Everything’s too complicated right now.” she murmured, finally pulling her hand away and stepping back. “We should just be friends.”

✿ Would they ever trust dark or wicked magic?

Before the war ignited, Lily was considerably more callow and naive than she is now and would blanch at the mere thought of dabbling with the Dark Arts, abhorring EVERYTHING that sort of magic stood for. But after she graduated from Hogwarts and joined the Order of the Phoenix, her resolve started to slip away, and it wasn’t long before she found herself resulting to curses such as Sectumsempra, Fiendfyre, and Avada Kedavra to fight Death Eaters on the battlefield. Fight fire with fire, kill or be killed, whatever mantra she needed to repeat in order to live with herself. She found that, with her Dragon Heartstring wand, it was easier to cast dark spells than it should have been, honestly, and while she felt no satisfaction or enjoyment from using such terrible magic, she would be lying if she said she felt sorry for the Death Eaters she maimed. She fully believes that they deserved their fate for joining a fascist organization and that ultimately, by killing them, she saved more lives than she took away. She still thinks that there are LINES that must remain uncrossed though. She has never tortured a human being, not even for information. Lily has also never drawn out someone’s death, preferring a clean and quick kill. She simply has no desire to watch anyone suffer, no matter how many horrible things they have done. She doesn’t have the stomach for it, and honestly she doesn’t ever want to reach a point where she’s so desensitized that she no longer c a r e s . She wants to keep some humanity, even if she doesn’t necessarily consider herself to be a GOOD person at this point. Nowadays, seeing as there isn’t really much a war to fight anymore, she only casts dark curses on inferi. And unless the zombie was originally a loved one, she doesn’t struggle with it too much. Their gaunt, cadaverous forms certainly help her separate them from the living, reminding her that walking corpses cannot actually experience pain and suffering. It’s only when the glamour is still intact that she might hesitate, but ultimately, she will do what it takes to survive.

rose frowned, tugging at her hair as she poured over her notes. “no, i have to do this now. we’ve been trying for ages. it shouldn’t be this hard,” she muttered, hardly loud enough to be heard. the emotion was clear. she was exhausted, tired of coming up empty handed when there were people that needed this. she wanted to do better. she could do better.

“i can figure something out. just let me finish. ten minutes. i promise, if in ten minutes i haven’t found anything, i’ll stop.”

“i’ve never done anything brave in my life.” it was true. rose kept quiet and in the background, hiding from anything potentially dangerous. her mother had been in a lot of trouble as a girl, and her cousins usually dragged her into similar situations. she didn’t enjoy it. some people like being scared, even enjoy the adrenaline rush from it, but rose? she hated it.

she inhaled and turned back, grabbing her cousin’s hand, dragging him away from the scene. “absolutely not. i hate those things and i’m not going near them, never mind fighting them. no.”
