goddammit adobe get yer shit together!! ffs
“A day after releasing its monthly security update, Adobe confirmed it has discovered a new vulnerability in Flash Player that affects every version running on the Windows, Macintosh and Linux operating systems.”
while Adobe wont admit it in their security update, the best thing to do is to uninstall/disable Flash Player until further notice…
“Citing Flash’s poor track record with security, some researchers recommend Web users disable or remove the plug-in altogether.” - CNET
PLEASE BE ADVISED THIS APPLIES TO ALL VERSIONS OF FLASH PLAYER, NO VERSION IS SAFE.
Adobe updated their security notice saying they will release an update Oct 16. See security bulletin here.
since the last security vulnerability in July I still have Flash Player disabled and only enable it on a case by case basis. its not totally necessary to navigate the internet with, but still find myself needing to use it from time to time. now idk maybe its time to give up on this fucker.
“2015 has been a very bad year for the Flash Player and given that a patch won’t be available for several more days it is crucial to take immediate action to protect yourself,” Jerome Segura, a senior malware researcher at Malwarebytes, wrote in a blog post Wednesday. “Indeed, this window of opportunity is something that exploit kit authors have taken advantage of in the past to infect scores of end users.”
The joke about the hoodie is that when York sends us Security Bulletin e-mails they always describe the suspects wearing hoodies and don't give any more specific details. So now everyone jokes about wearing a hoodie at York because everybody is a "suspect"...:P
Such vague descriptions in Security Bulletin emails do bug me personally but we admins (hi to the rest of y'all) had a discussion on the same topic a few weeks ago. I’ve since learned (from other admins, again hi) that York admin is not allowed to disclose what might just be sensitive information in an on-going investigation, or in situations where the survivor knows the suspects, etc. Other reasons for this might be to avoid racial profiling. All of these are of course speculation, and I personally remain somewhat informed but still very annoyed by vague descriptions in reports. I also personally think that under no circumstances should we make a joke about assault (specifically those of sexual nature) cases. This is a tasteless joke, not to mention potentially triggering and dangerous, and undermines the seriousness of these incidents.

Is the reason I'm not receiving york bulletins because york still hasn't confirmed my enrollment yet? I feel like I'm not able to receive messages from the school.
I don't really think that's the reason and I suggest you talk to UIT services in Scott Library about this.

I have my york email listed as my primary e-mail and I get all my moodle notifications but I haven't received a single security bulletin e-mail. I've even checked my junk mail but there isn't anything!
That’s quite odd :/ ,I would suggest contacting IT services and asking them to look into the issue. If you’re not getting security bulletins then you might not be getting other updates from the university either.

I have never gotten a security email from York. I didn't even know they were a thing but they sound great
Is your York email listed as your primary email? Sometimes when you get emails from York sent to hotmail/outlook it will get lost in cyber space, get sent to junk, or you won’t get anything at all, so it’s always a good idea to use York email as the primary email.
Everyone gets sent security bulletins if something happens on campus, it’s part of York’s awareness and transparency efforts.

I normally get York's security email alerts but I didn't get the latest one (armed robbery on Thursday). My friends and others got it so I know an email was sent out. Do you know why this might have happened?
That email was sent out today, check your MyMail again. If you’ve switched over to Google Apps for YorkU then check Google Mail.
