Seed Sprouting, Upcycling & Vegetable Pasta
Currently, we have the butternut squash seeds from yesterday's roasted butternut squash & basil seeds from Burpee (non-GMO) from the island's hardware store (25 cents!) sprouting in used egg cartons. I am going to enjoy sprouts pretty soon. Meanwhile, the roasted butternut squash to make some gnocchi is still in the fridge draining. I've decided to make more butternut squash gnocchi to have for the future, so today I'll roast the one I bought yesterday from the Block Island Grocery and drain it to make more tomorrow. I found a great tutorial on shaping gnocchi on Snapguide. It made so much more sense than any way anyone has ever shown me. Our freezer is going to have lots of vegetable pasta in it soon! I found another recipe for spinach pasta yesterday as well, so we'll see if that happens this weekend.
On the upcycling front, I'm adding to my list of upcycled products today. Gift bags. I'll share pictures later. I'm also reattempting the glass project once more, after I finish dishes and clean the kitchen from my pasta mess.
We're heading to NY next weekend & I'm excited to get some more vegetables to make pastas and other freezable meals out of for us to eat out here on the island. I've spoken to a few people about how hard it is to cook organically, and well out here because of a lack of access to supplies. I'm finding it's a matter of proper preparation and storing.
