Segment Revision Time!

SO. I finally found a way I could actually revise my short story! I’ve decided that the dragon just showing up and instilling some confidence in her isn’t shaking enough, (I know that doesn’t make much sense because she met a friggin’ Dragon, for pete’s sake), so I had the dragon give her a moonstone necklace (and oh man, let me gush about moonstone after this) and then she had a dream that’s supposed to be symbolism or something. I don’t know, I’m starting to feel less like a modern writer and more like one of those writers who tries to force symbolism and whatnot into every inch of their story. Whatever, who cares. The story is now at 12 pages and still going, as I continue to shape up the rest of the story instead of working on this eight page paper haahaahaa... It’s all good though, everything should work out fine.

Now let’s talk about the magical gemstone that is moonstone! Wow, this thing is gorgeous. Look at it.

Isn’t that amazing? I need about five of these right now. Anywho, I basically saw this gemstone and thought I needed to write about it, so it’s now in “Eyes of Spark.” It’s still at the same google doc site, I’m just updating it slowly as I make changes in my original Microsoft Word document. It should be finished tonight or tomorrow, as I’m flying through this little revision for some reason. Can’t wait to see how people like it!

Segment Two!

Sorry for the über late post guys, but I have finished writing the story! It’s about 9-10 pages long on Microsoft word, and I think I’m really happy with how it turned out. So much for my anxiety about not having a plot~ It’s a good thing I just accepted the story I wanted to write and stopped worrying about how other people might think it should go. I want people to read my story and like it (or dislike it) for how it is. They can want to change whatever they want, but it’s not about their wants for this story. It’s about mine.

So, I’ll be posting the story later this week after I go through and revise it a bit. I could post it before I revise it, to be able to show you guys the small changes or additions that I decide to make, but I don’t know. I’m kinda hesitant to putting a full work like that on the internet. Maybe I’ll upload it to googledocs and share the link or something.

And as for the print designs, I have them complete as well! (I’m pretty excited about these too~)

Alright, the first print design I have for you guys is when Lori has the flashback of her looking out the window to see the lime green eyes. (I may or may not color this accordingly.)

The second design... I got kinda lazy with drawing it out, but it’s pretty straightforward. It’s the long scene where Lori and Adriel are chilling on the river bank and talking about everything, and getting Lori to open up.

And the final design is when Lori watches Adriel fly away. I went all out with this one, for some unknown reason. I would’ve thought I’d under-do this one because I’d actually have to kinda draw the dragon. (Not the best at drawing here.) But I did, and I really like the way it turned out. Hopefully the print turns out just like this, maybe even better. Also, I have to learn to draw Marley braids, so that’ll be fun. LIES

Reflecting... again

Okay, first things first, I’ve been able to come to terms that my story isn’t going to have a drama-filled plot, and is more about my character, Lori, learning to accept things about herself and the world around her. So it’s mostly talking and while it may not seem important or like it has an actual plot to anyone who reads it, I don’t think I care anymore because the goal of this story isn’t to get people hyped up on dragon fiction. It’s to get people aware of what could be going through the mind of a young black woman in America, (cisgender and heterosexual, in this case, sorry guys), who deals with the effects of a society that praises european beauty and holds everyone up to such standards. Think what you want about my plot, I’m writing this to get you thinking, not fantasizing (at least not much more than the flying scenes, that is).

With this acceptance in terms of my story, I should be able to finish it up before the end of this segment! Hooray!

Other things that come with this segment include two prints, (which may be reduced to one, depending on how this segment goes), and one or two audio recordings of my favorite parts. Thinking about the audio recordings, I know already that it’s going to be hard for me to pick because I am lame and corny and like most parts of my writing.

Moving on to the prints, I believe I’ve decided upon these two processes: trace-(type) monotype (like sketching/shading on ink), and drypoint (etching) using sintra as a plate. I’ve picked these two processes as they have been my favorite processes so far in my printmaking class. also the ones I’ve had an easier time doing These are more tonal and linear than some of the other processes I’ve learned and attempted this semester, especially the drypoint, which is turning out much better than I thought it would. (I’ll post a few pictures to show you what I mean.) I’m still deciding on which scenes to illustrate, but with these processes I shouldn’t be too limited in options.

By thursday, I should have posted the following:

more story progress, including maybe some scenes I may omit

pictures of my current/previous attempts at the two printmaking processes I’ve decided on (to show how things could turn out)

and probably some more self-writing-help stuff that I can’t help but post and/or reblog to this blog
