Project Overview: The N.C. Department of Transportation s Rail Division is proposing a grade separation and permanent crossing closure on Millbrook Road under the CSX SF-Line in Wake County. The proposed grade separation will include a railroad bridge approx. 176 feet long and 36 feet wide. Project Purpose: The purpose of the proposed project is to eliminate the hazardous at-grade railroad crossing in north Raleigh to improve traffic and pedestrian safety which will enhance the movement of people and goods in the region. In combination with the state-funded Durant Road and New Hope Church Road grade crossings these three crossings will begin incremental improvements to the Raleigh to Richmond section of the Southeast Rail Corridor. The Millbrook Road Grade Separation will specifically: Reduce vehicular traffic delays on a heavily traveled road Improve safety for railroad highway and non-motorized traffic in the area Reduce emissions due to idling at the current grade crossings Allow for increased frequency and speed of CSX freight trains plus future intercity passenger and commuter rail trains Vicinity Map
