About last night... "Third verse is shout outs, giving love to those I can't do without..." © Sy Smith from "Fa' Sho" I cannot express articulately the amount of love that was in the room last night at Blues Alley. Nor can I tell you how much it meant to me. But if you saw my smiles at any point during the evening, if you heard the joy in my voice (singing, laughing, or otherwise), then you know exactly how much it meant to me to see you all there last night! I was so blessed to grow up in the DMV, with my family ties extending from my actual kinfolk to folk who would become "adopted" family - from my church (First Baptist Church of Minnesota Ave, SE), my schools (from Naylor Road, to Phyliss E Williams, to Walker Mill, to Eleanor Roosevelt High School - GO RAIDERS!), and on to @howard1867. Last night I saw members from all of those tribes in the house, and it made my heart dance. This was this village that raised me. This was the village that made a little girl from Largo/Kettering feel like she could move to Los Angeles and live out her dreams! And I did that because of so many of YOU! For that, my dearest tribe, I will forever be grateful! Thanks so much to Frank Sheffield of @seientertainment for booking me once again! Thanks to Blues Alley for being an awesome staff! Thanks @Ledisi for that surprise shout out on your IG! Thanks @wesfeltondc for always supporting a sis! Thanks to @soul.bounce and Fusicology for the social media/website love! Thanks to my band of brothers - @RichieGoods @LeePearsonii @drekingbeats @ghettofalsetto and John Lee! Thanks to my mommy and daddy for always giving me encouragement! Thanks to my brother @zo3hree5ive joining us for a jam or two! Thanks to the incomparable Dr. Barbara Baker (who was ALSO there last night) for teaching/exposing SO MANY OF US at ERHS everything we know about music, voice, and the world! And thanks to each and every one of you who came thru, cheered, clapped, stomped feet, raised glasses, got a good word, ate birthday cake and took part in that fellowship that was An Evening With Sy Smith! #SySmith #AboutLastNight #BluesAlley #seibookedit #SupportIndieSoul #Syberspace #IndieSoul (at Blues Alley)
