The familiar pattern of the male wriggling underneath the sheets though sleep continues to possess him. As well as his need to be close to Mink, whose body he is curled up against with those arms of his ever so clingy. Sleepy murmurs, the quiver of those long lashes and his deep sighs before his breathing became even. Peace to melt along his frame as the soothing scent of cinnamon and Mink's warmth reminds him he's safe here in his arms.
It was still the wee hours of the morning, still a touch too early for him to be awake. The sun had yet to start its ascent over the horizon, even just enough to lighten the now pitch black sky. But it wouldn’t be long. He could tell as his eyes cracked open a mere fraction to take in the lack of light. After all, the phrase of it being darkest before dawn held a resonance of literal truth, and there were no street lamps here.
Mink had only just become reacquainted with the notion of deep sleep. But after years of none, or a sleep so defensive and light that a feather dropping onto a down mattress could wake him, their bond was still a fragile one. He still found himself greeting consciousness at the smallest of things, including his ward’s murmurs and wiggling of mild distress. There was a fleeting moment of concern, but the boy lie still before it could become a surge of adrenaline, and peace fell once more.
He shifted in those thin, pale arms wrapped about him as Sei’s body sought the comfort and warmth of his own. And a low, barely audible chuckle managed to sound from his throat, lost to the quiet of the dark room. With that, Mink pressed a gentle, sleep ridden kiss to those soft, slightly parted lips.
The moment his eyes shut, he and sleep became amicable again.
