sad mizusei idea

((  It starts off with the two already in an established relationship. Everything is going fine and dandy, they’re being all lovey-dovey, etc. It’s the evening of their one year anniversary. Naturally, they have cute fluffy romantic sexytimes. 

That’s all just the introduction though. The next morning, Mizuki is off to work, he and Sei kiss each other goodbye, and Sei makes the comment about being lonely when Mizuki’s gone. Mizuki playfully ruffles Sei’s hair and kisses his head, and lovingly whispers, “I won’t be gone long.”

Little do either of them know, but Mizuki gets hit by a drunk driver and doesn’t make it. As Mizuki’s emergency contact, Sei gets the call to come down to the coroner’s lab at the hospital and confirm that the body is, in fact, Mizuki. Sei  is in complete shock all the way there, not believing that Mizuki could really be dead. As soon as the sheet is pulled back, Sei breaks down, sobbing uncontrollably. 

That’s only half the story, though. Mizuki’s spirit hasn’t moved on yet. He’s very surprised when he sees his own body laying on the pavement, being carried off. He’s beyond confused. It’s not until he sees Sei crumble and weep that he understands what was happening. He has to stay. He has to watch over Sei.

The whole story is basically Sei trying to cope with Mizuki’s death, and Mizuki, as a ghost, trying to keep Sei on the right path, comfort him, and to still be there for him. Months go by, then a year, then two years, and Sei gets progressively worse and worse, eventually shutting himself away in their apartment, almost never getting out of bed. 

Naturally, Aoba and the couple’s friends try to help Sei, but he refuses to listen. In the dead of night, he swears that he can still hear Mizuki’s voice, but when he turns around, no one is there. Anytime he tries to sleep, He wakes up crying, screaming out in agony. He spends the majority of his days balled up in a corner, rocking back and forth, murmuring things to himself, crying, screaming, pulling out chunks of his hair. 

He sinks so deep into depression that there’s only one way out. Of course, Mizuki sees the plan Sei’s cooking up and tries to stop it, but it’s  no use. Sei’s made up his mind. His eyes emptier than they had ever been before, he slowly makes his way to the flight of stairs that will lead him to the rooftop. In a zombie-like manner, he makes his way up, until he feels the cool evening breeze against his cheeks. It’s a strange feeling, considering he’s just spent months locked up indoors. He wants more. The breeze is soothing. He hasn’t felt this serene in so long. He walks toward the ledge. He stands there for a moment and takes takes a deep breathe. Mizuki is screaming, trying to grab onto Sei and stop him. But Sei can’t hear him. He takes the plunge. 15 stories down, feeling that soothing breeze against his cheeks before hitting the pavement with a snap!

Mizuki is in disbelief. He makes his way down to Sei’s body. “No…no…NO!” is the only thing he can manage to say. He tries to pull Sei’s head onto his lap, brushing his fingers through the black hair, running the back of his hand against the pale, lifeless cheeks of the one he had held so dear. He is crying uncontrollably, wishing he could end himself for not being able to save Sei. But he failed his mission of protecting Sei, he can’t move on to whatever next realm awaited him. He’s condemned to this earth for eternity, with the guilt forever on his shoulders. 

Suddenly, he sees a being materialize. He can’t believe his eyes, but as soon as the other spirit spoke, Mizuki knows. 

"Mizuki? You’re here! Are we in heaven?"

Mizuki is fighting back tears of joy now, and runs to the new Sei, leaving the physical body on the pavement behind. They embrace. Now they’re really together forever. Or so they think.

Despite his frailty, sei is pretty adventerous. He usually goes off, wanting to look at this and that while Mizuki worries after him. When sei gets too winded, mizuki makes him sit down for a moment, ignoring sei's pouts and offering him some water.
