DRC Event
I went to the Take Back the Night event which took place on Wednesday, April 22nd. In this event we marched from Douglass Campus to the College avenue campus via George Street at night and chanted slogans as we marched our way through. It was an empowering experience. I felt strong and empowered as I walked through the streets with this large group of girls who had come together to fight for their safety and protection and their freedom to walk alone at night and not feel afraid.
It is events like these that are important for women to realize what their position in society is and to make them aware of their freedoms. Even though most college going women have the knowledge about what is happening in our society and all the injustices that women have to go through, many feel powerless in those situations and are afraid to take any action. Take back the night was an empowering moment for all the women who feel that they have to conform to fit in the society. Coming together as a group and spreading awareness help in changing the society.
