the scent of the coffee had enveloped your senses, easily taking out all the groggy feeling left in your body, or at least that was what you thought of until your lips expanded for a yawn. stretching your arms up, you gazed at the wall clock hanging by the wall near the counter. through the glass wall of the convenience store, you saw a few people passing by. some would drop by the store to buy some instant food or drinks. it was still dark outside. different from how the busy district would be bustling with people and energy, the vicinity was peaceful, yet gloomy.
leaning back to your chair, you stared at the shelves of candies adjacent to the counter. there wasn't much to do. you only have a few more hours before your shift would be done.
a sound easily managed to draw your attention to the door-- the bell chimed, indicating a customer entered. however, you weren't able to see them well as they walked by the snack aisle as soon as they got in. it wasn't too long until they went to the counter, placing a bottle of water and a can of coffee. you punched in the items and uttered the total amount. placing the purchased drinks on the plastic, you lifted your head to look at the customer.
a wave of nostalgia came to embrace you, chest tightening in the process.
"sejun?" you managed to mutter when your eyes met.
he only gave you a small smile as he wrapped his fingers around the handle. it wasn't as merry as it was years ago whenever you had your fingers interlocked with his.
a year had passed ever since and merely looking at him gave weight to your stomach. standing in front of you was someone you used to exchange with affection. nothing much changed, sharpened by time, he looked more mature than before.
you reciprocated the beam, but yours was weaker. "i can't believe you're back."
