It had been an amazing end to the day filled with Whack-a-gnoll, the Canon, rides and even tasting the baked goodies which Taleyriel had insisted on Kaevia nearly having a taste of everything. For small snippets of the evening Kaevia had been able to forget what had transpired prior to their little night out. He had come to her for assistance in removing evidence from his flesh that had been done on to him. Rage filled antics such as that hadn’t been the first time and much of the time she had tended to his wounds, she was quiet and unnaturally calm considering the situation and gravity of what had been done on to him.
She wasn’t even sure what thoughts poured through the innermost workings of her mind, much of it was tainted with vicious words, choice threats that could have came into spoken verses; unthinkable acts. No, she would not harm another or threaten a life but that wasn’t so say Selaenice wasn’t going to pay in some form or another. No, she would not utter those words of hate in front of her counterpart. Time and time again throughout the night she would flash pretty smiles but each time his back had turned, cold expressions painted her face and precise details roamed to catch her attention. No one knew how to walk through fire better than she could. Most would say they were born of it but she was the fire and not some extension of it.
It had taken everything in her to bite back every ounce of the rage that spread within her being that was like a thick, inky mass just consuming her. Revenge was best served cold and waiting for karma to come around would have been far too much of a sincere punishment.
Could she even take the risk?
Would she be hated for what she might do for protecting her investments?
He could hate her but if it meant teaching someone a lesson to never lay hands on another, she’d risk it all. He didn’t belong to anyone but over a long period of him he had slowly become hers. Taleyriel had been hers in some essence and what was hers, she protected.
With the side of her finger wedged between her teeth, Kaevia stalked the floors of her study to examine the books she had within the Sun’rael library. Most of it was studies and theories or some sort of tome that had been carried on through the blood line. History and light reading -- her eyes then pulled to the chest that nestled along the top of the shelves, something she hadn’t opened since her stay in the Eventide manor and within she knew the Grimoire resided within. Since her nightmares creased upon besting the demons within the pages, she never laid eyes on it.
She knew the moment her eyes latched on the chest what she would do. Selaenice would pay the toll she owed and she wouldn’t even know what was about to hit her. Fortunately Kaevia had been taught by some of the best from Vicar Sunlust in Hearthglen and the arts of a Confessor and the discipline of holy magic to Elenaris who had taught her the uppermost dealings with shadow magic and now...the Ritualist Ottavia where she had been taught simple basics pertaining to Blood magic and simplistic rituals.
The Priestess was about to unleash every level of hell her body could muster only to administer a fitting punishment, kissing goodbye to the girl she once knew, she had withdrew the box and simply stared down to the curved wooden surface. She knew the moment she opened the lid there was no turning back, there was no way she could right the wrongs if she went through with it. Questions could be asked and fingers could be pointed.
What did it mean to be a Sun’rael anyways?
For years she strayed from the path of all the others to walk in the footsteps her mother had left behind, an easy upbringing and the life of a prodigy. She had every stone before her to lead her through the woods like a trail to victory until now. Before her, there was no stone and it was simply a pond where she knew she would have to sink or swim.
“ I can’t believe you’re doing this to me.” she spoke out and finally her hands pulled the lid of the chest open, the dark and musty old grimoire laid still before her.
She sat settled and locked away in the study for quite some time to flick through the pages of the dim and still grimoire that once belonged to another and finally she had found something fitting. Propping the book along a stand she went about fetching the ingredients and surprisingly there were very little. Six candles had been plucked from the drawer of her desk where each had been placed to form a half circle, their lit wicks forming a curve of light within the room. Her palms came up and faced towards the flames and she had remembered to keep herself stable when daring to dance with shadows, tendrils spilled from her aura and began to circle in a small mist between her and the candles, forming and growing thicker in mass; she channeled fiercely.
“By my might, by all that is right..”
Kaevia’s eyes closed and she pulled her right hand in a circle to weave the shadows tighter, “Curse this woman and take away her sight.” once her hand had pulled into it’s proper position, the left began to circle in the same motion, viciously the shadows swirled and crackled, “Force her to stare at eternal night and face life for a time without light.” together her hands shifted forward at the hovered to smooth over the shadows. With her eyes still closed she could see the woman’s face, her figure and cold expression. The very hateful image of the woman had already been burned and seared into her mind the moment they had met. She couldn’t forget a vacant and more hateful twist in a person’s eyes.
“Blame it on me, set my good free. Wish not to see you near me . Through the ashes I can see myself slipping from your eyes and within to the night.”
Bit by bit she focused as the shadows within her mind took the vision hidden behind her eyelids, moment by moment the face of the woman disappeared until darkness consumed her, nearly swallowing her whole in the vision and the burned memory of her face was gone.
“ Ashes take your sight this night.”
Her eyes opened dangerously and her hands clapped to disperse the shadows between her palms. The next step would seal what she had done and it would have been a matter of time to see if the spell had taken hold. Listing in, her breath blew out the candles in one, continuous blow from right to left.
It was done and the moment she breathed back in, she felt that part of her might have left her already. The smell of burning wick tickled her nose and in the dark room she watched as the smoke soon smoldered out along with the last dying embers of the flame that once was.
Shadows take her as she had never wished ill will on another until now. If anything, perhaps the woman would learn to live for a time through senses instead of being judgemental through what she saw and not what she could feel through the heart. A curse? No….a valuable lesson. Selaenice had to be taught in what it meant to live through others, how to be vulnerable and wanting to establish something other than means through the end of a pen. Injustice would be answered with justice and she pitied the woman of how stone-like her heart had become; her facade would crumble in time.
Standing in the dark, Kaevia’s thumb and index finger drew circles around one another as a stern glance remained on the candles before her. Taleyriel was going to hate her if he ever found out. Maybe it would be she rather than anyone else who would break the foundation they had laid out for themselves, wasting their efforts away for one act….one act of love she would have done a million times over.
She was about to break his kin and the only thing she could heavily consider is what if tonight would have been the last time he held her out of adoration. Would he be able to look at her the same after this? Slowly her gaze pulled to her hands in the dark and she flexed her fingers.
“ He would have done the same.” she told herself,” He would have done the same…” the lies kept coming as she knew this would have had a different outcome than Dalaran and whatever Taleyriel had done during their travel there.
Finally her imperfections started to show even though she hid them well.
