During my last visit to India the weather was much different than in previous years. Maybe we should have seen that as a sign of the upcoming pandemic, only a few weeks later. Regardless, we made the time on those foggy mornings to have dialogues with the local community and also document the hard work being done in the field during that month. Presently we have six sewing centers in two states of India, serving both the Hindu and the Muslim communities. For eight weeks of quarantine I was blessed enough to be hosted by my friend’s family. During the quarantine I was able to walk the land around the village. This negative was exposed one week before the pandemic gripped the world in early 2020. This young girl’s school is a traditional Islamic school located in a rural village. She and her friends attend only the school and do not attend the government school. In the north and northwest of India wheat reigns supreme, and my time during quarantine was spent walking around endless fields of this special crop. The roti made by my host family was made by the wheat which they grew in their own fields. During the quarantine of 2020, I was fortunate to have been hosted by a family living in rural Rajasthan. We were able to explore the area nearby and also collaborate with various construction projects, like the building of this dam. These young women worked 8 to 10 hours each day just to support their families. In one frame we can see the amount of earth that had been removed, which towers above their heads.
