Hi! I've been looking at the self-aware AU for a bit, and I really like your work with it! after reading, I had an idea. This might be dark, and I don't know if you'll take it. Feel free to ignore this if it's out of acceptable standards. This is for Self-aware PLA. Just imagine if the player had to be Deployed for service, and the day before they decide to play their favorite Pokemon games, ending with PLA. They don't know when they'll return, what conditions they'll be in, or even IF they'll return.
The characters notice something's off. The usual Joy the player has when interacting with them or catching pokemon isn't there. there's a sense of melancholy and, some can see, desperation. Eventually the player lets slip that they are getting deployed, and don't know if they'll come back alive. Those who the player have adored are hit hard by the news.
Volo is distraught when he learns what it means. He has seen the player as their God, the one who loved and cared for them. Knowing that he may never be able to see them again, not because they were ignoring them or because they fell out of favor, but because they were dead, hurt. If he were just ignored, he could at least have something to be angry at. But this? It wasn't that the player didn't want to see him, it was that they couldn't. This was somehow SO much worse than being left for another. To know you are loved but may never see the one who loved you ever again.
Feel free to add on and/or discuss this. I just wanted to bring the idea to you.
Could you imagine how harrowing it would be?
Learning the world the 'entity' controlling Akari or Rei is not only in an expansive world of their own, but now has to possibly go to war?
Akari and Rei know what that means. Kanto somewhat recently was in a devastating war where there were a lot of casualties, allegedly. While they had pokemon in their world for war, they had come to learn that you didn't.
That frightened them.
If you didn't have pokemon, you had weapons... And probably only weapons, such as guns, if they understand what you are saying, correctly.
Ingo feels hollow when he hears about it. Flashes in his head of weapons and destruction rang familiar in his mind, and it made him feel cold, as if dowsed with ice water.
While he gets the sense he never personally saw such battles, he had seen pictures, he thinks. Somehow able to recall semi realistic imagery of such battles, at least.
They have to explain what you mean to the others, and everyone is just as upset as they are.
What do you mean you are being deployed somewhere, potentially seeing war? Just how bad is it, where you are at to need to be in military service?
Did you join willingly? Forcefully? Was this deployment an act of war time? Or were you being called just to do some service on a base?
Then you sound so... empty about it. How you lament to yourself you might not even return with how things are allegedly going where you are being sent.
Volo is especially one of several who are upset.
While this shakes his belief a little bit, wondering what kind of world requires a god to go to war, he finds he cares little on the details. Arceus allegedly fought in a war, as did other legendary pokemon. For all he knew, you were just as much a war god as a creative, divine being.
Was it really far fetched for you to be going to a war? Though if you were lamenting possibly not making it back, it leaves him shaken that whatever war this is, it could end in your destruction.
Volo nearly breaks at the thought, and has a small freakout about it when in private. Should he help you? What could he do to even help? He tries to come up with plans and ideas, especially knowing you don't have much time left before you leave.
Meanwhile Adaman and Irida are conflicted, and dare say, are considering working together to figure something out.
They don't quite understand what you are, but believe you are perhaps also a deity, one that sent the hero to help them, and guide them. They wonder if the great Sinnoh might be able to help you, and aid you in battle, or rescue you from it if need be.
Perhaps they can agree to a plan? Figure something out at least to get you out of that nightmare you must be preparing to face. Or at the very least, provide assistance in some way?
All the while you stare at your screen, unaware of the turmoil of the characters residing in the Switch between your hands.
I've always been sort of baffled by how some artists will shave off the roundness from Volo's face, so imagine with me if you will that SelfAware!Volo can hear the player occasionally commenting on his cute chubby Pachirisu cheeks.
If everyone can hear the player, his coworkers probably clown on him. He may respond with indignance. The "true god" clearly seems to find his soft features endearing, so why should he care about their laughter?
Perhaps Adaman and some of the other males express jealousy over Volo being fawned over as well...
His cheeks are so cute ♪(´▽`)
Of all things for everyone to hear across the world, why did it have to be you talking about how cute his cheeks are?
'I could just grab them and squish them! They look so squishable and smoochable!'
The initial horror he felt as all his coworkers all turned to look at him. No doubt he'd be teased to hell and back later for it.
...But it wasn't too bad. Not anymore.
Sure, he complained about it from time to time in front of others, but at the end of the day...
He liked it.
Volo liked it a lot.
It wasn't something he was insecure about, sure, but this has definitely ended up both highlighting his round cheeks, and also boosting his confidence a little bit.
And it was you.
You, the real god in the sky, were complimenting him.
Others could tease him all they wanted, but he could see their jealous looks. How the others envied the attention he got.
The looks he would receive, from his coworkers, to villagers of different villages he'd travel to.
Adaman especially gives him nasty looks, and Irida is not far behind him with her glares.
At least a few people were civil with him, but...
Was it wrong he thrived off the attention, knowing it was your attention, and others had to sit by and watch as he was fawned over? Even if it was just his round cheeks?
Maybe.
But as your presence filled the world again, as you started talking and mentioning him again...
I’m looking through my screenshots and found one where Irida is standing in the middle of the Diamond clan settlement. I think it’s from the request where she wants to battle Palkia.
She’s challenging me in the middle of Diamond clan when Adaman is away. The balls on this woman. Doesn’t help that his own people are praising her battling skills.
I also found the screenshots when Adaman, Irida, and Mai are looking at the sunset. Imagine the pettiness behind the screen. No one can say anything cause the player is there buttttttt.
Also Liam and Melli arguing is hilarious.
It’s all good!
But yes,, Irida is one strong, proud woman. She is ready for almost anything, especially when it comes to her clan.
Though they are most definitely all stewing in anger and frustration with the screenshots of them looking at the sunset!
To be honest, both clans now arguing over your favor is just hilarious in general. Surely! You must love the Diamond clan more since you favor it’s leader!
But you favor So many of the Pearl clan! You MUST like them more, no?
