ウォロ Overdose ! ?
You've probably answered this before and like with the AU ofc but what do you think OG Volo really really desired to achieve? Do you think he just wanted to rule everyone and everything?Cause ok, let me explain my thoughts on this (and don't mean to criticize you btw! It's totally if you think I'm wrong, but I just genuinely love discussing Volo)
Through the game we don't really see Volo as a power-hungry or despotic person at all. Sure underhanded and secretive with ulterior motives but I was actually really surprised when it turned out HE was the secret boss like I genuinely remember vividly going to mount coronet to meet him like "oh another clue! Wonder what awaits me" Only to be genuinely surprised we were having a boss battle. Completely unprepared haha. Anyway, I guess through the game he really seems like a guy interested in just researching and understanding myths. Sure then you find out he's like a raging fanatic of Arceus and wishes to summon him but I just didn't understand why?
Like ok even if his end goal was to summon and control Arceus (Which btw is surely a weird relationship to have with a deity you genuinely adore y'know?) why do it? Why go through such lengths? Cause from all we hear from Volo you can't really say yeah this guy would desire power so bad he'd use his own god to achieve it. Much less like he's seeking political power, wealth, social status or even glory from being a powerful trainer? He's obsessed with knowledge and the mystery of creation and arceus but that still doesn't erase his genuine devotion, I guess I just don't think it's all an act, y'know?
Anyway, I'm just always curious to know what you think Volo's "new, better world" really was. Cause I get it kinda echoes on Cyrus' motivation but in-world I was never really happy with the explanation. I'd love to know your headcanon/s actually 👉👈
Anyway, sorry for the long ask TvT hope it hasn't been answered extensively before
I don't think I've answered this before actually! (if I talked about it, it may have been in my old Volo post from a few years ago) for me, the part I always focus in on to explain his motive is what he says here:
all of this, at least to me, points to Volo having experienced something really traumatic as a child (ofc I have my own headcanons as to what that could involve, and I've seen other say theirs as well but we don't exactly know what this was, we can only speculate) but whatever this was, it was impactful enough on him, in my opinion to, not just drive his curiosity to learn more about the mysteries and myths of his world (as he said he dedicated his energy to), but gave him the specific ambition to seek out Arceus. and I feel maybe originally, when he first had these thoughts, he would have just wanted to seek out Arceus to ask it why things were like this, possibly ask it directly to do something about it, but as time went on and he grew up and possibly went through even more painful events and things in his life, that evolved into resentment. another thing I think about is unanswered prayers feeding into this resentment. if he couldn't directly speak to Arceus, prayers would be the next option. and if those were unanswered, i could imagine he would start to feel hopeless, then angry. maybe not outwardly. but he could be harboring that, y'know
secondly, Volo has the blood of the ancient Sinnoh people in him (I assume this as the Celestica people):
he obviously expresses his frustration/disappointment here that Arceus doesn't seem to acknowledge him in any way. and I think this, in addition to the frustration that some stranger that fell out of the sky is who Arceus chose over him, also feeds into the resentment he feels because he, in his mind, should be the one who can get close to the creator. also, I have a headcanon that the whole reason that Volo is incredibly devoted to Arceus is tied to his connection to ancient Sinnoh peoples. maybe he was raised that way...? i dunno! but I at least think that ties in to possible unanswered prayers and resentment and all of that fun stuff. anyway - all this to say that, at least to me, it feels like Volo's heart was in the right place in terms of genuinely wanting a better world that doesn't have any pain or heartbreak (I definitely don't see him as power hungry or any of that), but he just chose a poor path to achieve that in the end. and even though this was never explained or touched upon in the games (I feel you on that disappointment, I really wish there was more flavor text for him about all of this), I like to think he really did have a more level-headed view on it originally. it's just that he really lost himself along the way and possibly was driven to the point where we see him at the end of the game by 1. possible prayers that weren't really answered, 2. the frustrations of not being able to see the creator despite being tied directly to ancient Sinnoh people and 3. the fact that the PLA player character just waltzes in one day with this "Arc phone" and is apparently in direct contact with Arceus itself instead of him... and I'm not sure what that "perfect" world looks like to him outside of a utopia that literally has no conflict, no wars, no illnesses, etc etc - everyone just lives happily with no worries. and maybe it's a world where humans are immortal (perhaps a death of a loved one in his life really affected him to this degree and that's a factor... it's possible)
plus, while Cyrus and Volo are similar with their desire for making a new world and eliminating strife, their core motivations for it are actually pretty different imo. Cyrus, from what I recall in dialogue, feels emotions are illogical and the major problem the world has, they need to be cut out (he also had this thing about becoming a deity ...yeah) Volo, on the other hand, feels very emotionally driven in his path, and while I don't remember him specifically stating that if does this he'll become a deity (like Cyrus did), I do think he would be willing to take on that role if it means he can create a better world. kinda just accepting that, you know. also, I do have feelings, based on his cry out to Arceus about what it sees lacking in him, that he feels almost (for lack of a better word) entitled to not only Arceus's attention but also to becoming a deity if he were to replace it, based on his mention of having the blood of the ancient Sinnoh people in him. so there's that.
i hope all of that makes sense. this isn't the most eloquent write up, it's messy, but it's just some thoughts I have on it. I could do something more in-depth if anyone else was interested to hear that
but thank you for asking either way! :D

Apparently volos flower is a real thing
So I remembered this post I made and I had a funni au idea.
What if Volo was the Ferryman until Gabriel saved him from Wrath and he get to relive another life as an immortal who is probably somewhere in Lumiose City
This would probably effect some of the events such as instead of his wielder clothes it’s the Ferryman’s cloth and the comically large spoon oar, but I think it would be hilarious if Volo just kept the oar for. Reasons.
And that also means Volo (Ferryvolo?) can also dodge roll and probably made sculptures of him and Gabriel together (Volo is a self shipper!!! One of us!!!)
