So last night I got an ask about whether it was safe to do tarot (or other divination, I suppose) for yourself, as one of my darling followers was finding conflicting information, so here's my two cents:
You can do it, but.
Divination for yourself is kinda like self diagnosis, in that you, and also people really close to you have an information overload and don't necessarily have the distance to properly judge what you're looking at. So the cards will be as honest as they ever are, but you may not understand what they're telling you, or you may misinterpret it because you're just dealing with way too much.
I'll give you an example: I did a reading on myself between high school and college (because that was a scary transitional time and I wanted guidance) and I saw love in my future and ooh! How grand! So I went on blindly and was so pleased. But holy crap should I have realized that all that nurturing and love I saw was on my end, there was no return love. I should have seen that the man that I saw was unstable, but I didn't see it and a year and a half later I'm sitting locked in my bathroom in tears because I'm finally freed from that asshole, and what I'm trying to say is that you need the distance to see properly. So you can do one for yourself, but read it as remotely as possible, and slowly, slowly apply it to yourself until you know enough to read yourself regularly. And don't be afraid to change your view, the future changes and maybe you need to change what your interpretation is with new information. It happens sometimes.
The other danger I can see is that people can sometimes fixate on living exactly according to the cards and they can miss important things. So yeah, the Tower says there's a risk, a time of upheaval, but maybe you need that. Maybe you need to jump. Or maybe you really shouldn't.
So yes, you can do your readings, just be careful to remember to live and live well.
