Let's go
Prologue teaser for Self-Isekai
My life is boring. So very boring. Every day the same routine, the same mundane problems and simple fixes. I got no dreams, no aspirations. Just surviving, never living. Good thing my mother is a witch with incredible foresight.
My neighbours must think someone broke in because of all the ruckus I make looking for a cardboard box in every corner of my humble home. It’s been a long time since I have last seen it. Half my mind even feared it was thrown away by accident, being mistaken with a different box full of trash.
My anxiety disappears the second I see the grey box with green stripes. It’s about the same size as a regular shoe box, but inside is something of immeasurable worth. Excitedly, I sit down on my couch in the livingroom, pulling the couch table closer to set the box ontop before opening it.
Inside lays a book. It’s leather bound and snapped shut with a metal snap button. Dragons, stars and vines are engraved all over the leather and painted in with gold and silver paint. Despite the grand appearance, the book itself was rather thin. Like a simple notebook one might use at school.
I smile warmly as I take it in my hands, fond memories of my childhood flooding my minds. I remember playing pretend with this book whenever my mother let it lay within reach. I would pretend to be a powerful witch, casting spells left and right. Aspiring to be just like my mother.
My mother gifted it to me on the day I moved out, telling me to look inside when life just doesn’t feel right. When I’m in need of a change of pace and she couldn’t be there for me. Since she is currently travelling through countries on the other side of the planet, and I am one step away to becoming a literal houseplant, I’d say I am right to look inside.
I unclasp the button and flip open the book to the very first page.
My dear MC, seems like you aren’t happy with your current life and remembered this little gift I gave you. In this book, you will find a spell guide to enter Endlos, a world unlike this one. Unlike the magic-less planet we call our home, Endlos is near bursting with magic, mythical creatures and much more. It is a world I treasure like a second home. Besides the spell guide are a few notes on important knowledge of that world. And you also won’t need to worry about a place to sleep. At the very end of this book is a letter to an old apprentice of mine who will be more than happy to take you in for however long you like. The spell will guide you directly to the gates of his property. You see your mama has thought of everything :) My only regret is that I can’t be with you on your journey. Tell Miellis to send me a message of your arrival as contacting me by phone might be difficult depending on where I am. Have fun, stay safe, I love you. Mama<3
“Holy shit…”
I stare wide eyed at the page. A spell to travel to another world?? Am I dreaming?? I flip through the pages. Exactly as mother’s message said, there are notes upon notes about Endlos’ currency, culture, plants and even critters I’m sure to run across, all accompanied with drawing and glued in photographs. As I reach the last page, a folded letter slips out. Probably the letter she mentioned. But my attention was focused on the drawn sigil in the middle of the page.
Quickly -due to my growing excitement- I skim through the instructions. Sit down on the floor with anything you want to bring close to your body, then trace the sigil with your finger twice before closing your eyes and chanting Endlos 5 times.
It seems so grossly simple that I need a moment to believe it actually works. But I know my mother and trust in her abilities, so it must work! But that only makes my head spin even more. Before my eyes is the literal key to a world full of magic. Mama never took me with her when she travelled worlds, saying I should focus on my life in this one until I was old enough to travel by myself.
Guess that day finally arrived.
But am I really ready for this? Do I go through with this?
