roleplay 101 ; a quick guide.
this is just a really simple &&Â very quick guide to some things that i wish i had known when i started in the rp community, particularly indie, because let me tell you, indie is a tough rope to walk. so hereâs just a few tips and tricks to make rp life easier than just going in blind.Â
1. read peopleâs rules. always. re-read the rules. tattoo the rules on your skin, do whatever you need. but read âem, memorize âem, remember âem. a potential rp partner finds comfort in the fact that youâve read the rules, and some people even put messages in them to make sure you have. but always, always, always read them. itâs common courtesy. read any pages they have, because if you donât the people who follow you and interact with you will know.Â
2. not everyone is gonna follow you. donât take offense to it. the worst thing you can do is develop a resentment for someone who didnât mean to hurt your feelings. some people have personal preference on why they donât follow back, personal experience and follower count do definitely play in it though. please do not harass someone for not following.Â
3. donât send anon hate. i shouldnât even have to explain why this isnât okay.Â
4. get some icons, because unfortunately, some roleplayers are picky. i suggest it merely because it gives me a better grasp on your character, a face to put with whatever character you have. this is NEVER required, but i suggest it ! and if you donât wanna make your own, thereâs plenty of sites that provide all kinds of faces, new and old ( hollow-art is most common, though ).Â
5. formatting isnât necessarily required, esp. not to someone like me, but small text is always a plus ! the short cut is real easy. just control+shift+9. thatâs all. it just makes longer posts shorter, and itâs handy ! but for me personally, i really donât care if you format your posts or not. itâs nbd to me.Â
6. get a theme ! themes are nice ! even if it super minimalist with like a gif, itâs still a theme. having the basic tumblr theme kinda throws some rpers off. i personally donât care since i follow for characterization, but a theme may help people feel like youâre taking your character seriously ( even though you probably are regardless ). first place i always go is hollywhood.Â
7. an oc road is hard to walk. be prepared. some people like ocs and some donât, but itâs pretty true to say that ocs get the most criticism in the indie roleplay community. do not let this discourage you. live your dreams. make whatever character you want. but if you need some tips, there are plenty out there ! Â just poke around a bit.Â
8. have fun and make friends. i guarantee that youâll make a whole bunch of friends, and have fun doing it. donât get discouraged about being a small blog, the longer you are here, the more you will grow. promise.Â
9. donât be afraid to follow first and get yourself out there. you gotta start somewhere, donât be scared to follow someone ! chances are theyâll be like hmmm who dis and see what youâre up to. donât be shy ! do what you gotta do.Â
and lastly, 10. enjoy your character. enjoy what you do. donât join and be unhappy, and donât let anyone make you feel that way either. you deserve to have a good time, remember that.Â
and thatâs that ! have a good day.Â
