Cognition overreaches its original function. Intelligence evolved to model environments for survival, but reflexive self-modeling turning that modeling inward was a byproduct, not a goal. Once language and abstraction appeared, the system could represent its own processes, including its fragility. That capacity gives no evolutionary benefit; it’s an accidental side effect of a flexible modeling brain.

You comprehend that you are a form because the representational apparatus became recursive. It can now simulate not just prey, shelter, and weather, but itself. This self-awareness brings both philosophy and anxiety, luxuries and burdens of an overdeveloped cortex.
