Building a Healthy Self-Relationship Pt.1
We are busy!! That is life. We have multiple areas of our "world". We are busy in our professional life, educational life, creative life, and personal life. Our personal life include our husbands or wives, children, and ourselves. Let's face it, we have a lot on our plate! Building any type of relationship requires time, effort, selflessness, patience, understanding, and vulnerability. It takes a lot of work to build and maintain a healthy relationship. We are investing our emotional energy, intellectual energy, finances, time, and our love. It can be extremely draining, but the relationships are worth it!
Quickly, name the first person that you spend the most time with!! IF you did not say your name Houston we have a problem.
You are with yourself 24/7 literally. You are with your thoughts, emotions, fears, doubts, insecurities, happiness, joy, highs, and lows. So, having a healthy self relationship is extremely imperative in life. Balance is key and challenging to maintain, but it is feasible. Below are some basic steps to help improve, build, and/or restore your relationship with self.
1.) Self-Talk. Make sure that your self-conversations are uplifting, in truth, and healthy. You can "check" yourself, but make sure that you compliment yourself. Destroy the negative thinking. Do not disrespect yourself. Speak encourage words over yourself. Life and death is in the power of your tongue.
2.) Debrief. After work or school reflect/de-toxic. Talk out what went well with your day and what did not. Brainstorm about how you can improve your day or any situations. Express your emotions about your day in detail. If you are feeling a "certain" type of way talk those thoughts/emotions out with YOURSELF!
3.) Celebrate your small successes. Shower yourself with compliments! Pick a day out of the week and treat yourself to a small gift. Whatever you do CELEBRATE yourself!
We cannot pour out what we do not have! Lets take the time out to replenish ourselves. When we are restored we are equipped for success in our "worlds".
