Here is my final self portrait when looking at mutating myself. My original idea with mutation which was more or less the eureka idea that set the ball rolling was that combining say a dog & a fish together would be a temporary form along with a mutation. So for this final self portrait piece I wanted to combine myself with an animal. My reference image was one of the photos paul tarpey took of me. The colour patterns on the canvas represent mutation in the sense that adding white to the colours would bring them down a shade therefore mutating my original colour. Overall I’m not the happiest with the outcome of the piece but I think it gets the message across to the best of my ability. 3/3
Self portrait rough sketch
For my second self portrait during my exploration of mutating images of myself, I wanted to keep it quite simple and more or less a dark art style. The mutations I added to myself were horns along with some sort of goblin ears and a dagger going through my face so I could add some sort of skeletal details. I really really like how this portrait turned out, I think its sleek, clean and effective in getting the point across. 2/3
One of the first plans of action after having my portraits taken of me was to download the images and play around with them. For these images I used different effects along with some filters. I felt as it was an easy way to ease myself into the process of mutating myself. I used the app procreate and along with different brush strokes or filters I also messed about with the saturation and the hues of the images.I felt as if this process really helped me to wrap my head around my own idea, mutation wasn’t so much of something crazy anymore like a dog and a fish. I realised I could have fun with it and any change I made to myself in terms of the images were mutations. I loved how these turned out, simple but effective.
