I chose to make a brochure because I wanted to inform others about vestigial structures in a simple manner. I chose vestigial structures because they provide concrete evidence of evolution. I purposely made my brochure easy to read so that younger people could easily understand it.
I had to research about vestigial structures beforehand. I learned that vestigiality does not only involve the physical aspects of the organism, but also the behavioral and even the molecular traits. I was also able to compare the vestigial structures of humans to the corresponding structures in animals. I also learned that some vestigial structures have modified functions, and this is called exaptation. These are some of the reasons why vestigial structures provide strong evidence of evolution.
I gathered the information I needed from several similar websites, in order to maximize and to countercheck the information. All the images were taken from Google Images, and I prioritized those that had labels or diagrams.
Perhaps the hardest part of making the brochure was designing it. I looked up several brochure designs on the internet as basis. I did not have enough resources, so I had to make the most of what I did have. I chose the right fonts and colors to make it readable and appealing to children at the same time.
Admittedly, the brochure could have been improved if I had a better format. I only used Google Docs for this portfolio. I would have designed it more if I used another format.
