is it still considered going nonverbal if it happens through typing/text? if there's another term for this please tell me
Nonverbal and Semiverbal refer to the ability to speak using mouthparts. The ability to produce written/typed word or comprehend speech or written/typed words is not tied into it. Some people retain their ability to process language while nonverbal, others don’t and some it can depend on the moment.
Generally, when I stop being able to produce typed speech, I just say my ability to produce language is down/gone. And if I stop being able to read or understand spoken word, I say my ability to process language is gone.
Unfortunately I’m not aware of any specific terms like nonverbal or semiverbal for this.
Although thinking about it (aka making shit up), nonlexical/semilexical or nonlexic/semilexic nonlexal/semilexal would follow the nonverbal semiverbal pattern and could be used to describe global language ability- or the ability to process language/words. Also, these words would definitely be useful for me since I can see them making my ability to discuss my experiences easier.
