maybe this was a bad idea in itself. her curiosity definitely put her in a precarious situation by volunteering to go to space. it was a shit idea and now she’s paying for it. still, it doesn’t change the fact that everything around her right now was fascinating as hell. she’d just clawed one particularly aggressive alien creature when she saw him in the same area that she was. cindy was getting tired and the man appearing was the answer to her prayers. technically. so she webbed one last creature on her end and ran towards bucky, immediately clawing at the alien that was supposed to attack the man. “hope you don’t mind me hanging out a bit with you.”

the first he noticed was that he was a lot more malleable than he was four seconds ago. his powers seemed to have come back on their own accord, and he could stretch his limbs to his heart’s content if he wanted to. the second thing he noticed, however, was that there was a feeling of darkness within him. an almost unbearable darkness that grows inside him, his otherwise rational mind slowly being taken over by an irrational obsession over fear.

and so he found himself seeking out tony stark. the scientist found himself having quite the irrational fear of batman and it was then that reed knew that there was something wrong with him. with the gas sprayer prop on his wrists and the mask at hand, he knew there was only one way to test out his hypothesis.

and he sprayed the gas on the first person he saw: bucky barnes.

“couldn’t they have at least let me have my prototype glider?” it was frustrating to be walking around and working around planet doom without his earlier projects back at oscorp. harry would much rather have his prototypes at hand and in his sight, especially if they were dealing with someone like doom. “the machete would’ve come in handy though.”

“well it looks like the worst of the rain’s gone.” he wasn’t hearing the pitter-patter of the rain nor could he smell burning metal anymore so matt assumed that’s what happened then. he’s long since stopped asking for answers about whatever the hell was happening because he was beyond the point of caring anymore. “but i don’t think the worst of these lands are done.” he finally let out a deep breath, his muscles aching but still standing. “where to next?”

“you got that one right.” it was refreshing to say the least to hear that someone was afraid. they were dealing with animals that she’s only seen in movies and she’s already internally panicking considering she didn’t know how to deal with meat-eating lizards. “please tell me i’m not the only one losing my mind over the fact that we’re dealing with extinct animals.” it didn’t matter if cindy was here with bucky and therefore was luckier than the rest in the long run—but both of them were still very much human despite the powers they had. maybe if she pretended she couldn’t see the dinosaurs, they’d actually disappear.

“wait, what?” jesus christ, what the fuck was going on with this guy? he’s pretty sure any sort of numbness isn’t the healthiest nor the safest thing for a person right now. and he even has a metal arm, for god’s sake. where was captain america at this point of the day? “are you okay? where are you numb right now?” the only sort of medical practice harry knew was first aid, and he doubted he could work something out with bucky barnes and his apparent numbness. “stay with me, man. i’m gonna call for help.”

The break room of the compound was cold -- icy cold -- but it had nothing to do with Bobby. He was hugging himself and looking around as Bucky had come in looking bewildered and shouted the moment the lights started flickering and there were whispers and rustles of things all around them.

“Well, it’s not me!” Bobby shouted back, voice going a bit high with fear. “It’s probably someone trying to freak us out and they’re doing a damn good job!”
