Currently all Democratic Senators and two Republicans are voting No. But it's not enough to stop her nomination. If one more Republican senator doesn't vote No, Vice President Pence will have the tie breaking vote - and we can guess how that will go. Why should you be concerned? Mrs. DeVos is the most unqualified for her proposed position in a cabinet full of unqualified nominees. Additionally, she is the daughter of a billionaire family, whom married the son of another billionaire family. Those two billionaire families contribute hundreds of thousands of dollars to Republican candidates across the country. This is another example of our government being f bought by the wealthy class. Senator Orrin Hatch and Senator Mike Lee are undecided on their votes at this time. Call their Utah and Washington DC offices to thank them for their service and encourage them to vote No on Betsey DeVos'nomination. Commentary: “”Look beyond judges for the Supreme Court nominee””

As President Barack Obama prepares to square off with Senate Republicans over his U.S. Supreme Court nominee, I offer a soft word of advice: Don’t pick a judge.

And yet in the past, the Supreme Court’s great justices have included both politicians and prominent advocates, some of them household names. Justices such as Earl Warren, Hugo Black and Salmon Chase were already widely known. So was William Howard Taft, former president. Thurgood Marshall and Louis Brandeis were practically household names. This isn’t to suggest that selecting a non-Ivy League non-judge who has not been a clerk would suddenly cure the nation of its current passionate mistrust toward those in authority. But it might help.

Senate.gov Has Been Hacked; 87 Year Old Security Expert Keeps His Job.

LulzSecurity has announced that they managed to successfully gain entry into Senate.gov's web server(s).

Observations

Based on data that was released we can make following observations:

SSHD daemon allowed connections outside of the internal network.

Single machine hosted multiple web-sites; which means that a successful attack on one of the neglected web sites would grant full control of more important properties.

Since directories served by Apache are (in some cases) owned by root UID; it's safe to assume that Apache daemon was never jailed and/or set to run under a non-privileged user.

Rookie mistakes? Absolutely.

If this was a private sector, multiple pink slips would be handed out today.

But not in this case; the person in charge of securing that server will keep his (or her) job and slack off until it's time to call it a day and retire.

I met with individuals who held state and federal positions and while genuinely they meant to do good; they lacked up understanding and knowledge of widely known defense techniques that a typical teenager with genuine interest in security would know.

There is no 'accountability' when you combine goverment and IT. As long as you got into the sector and have a clearance required for the job, you can be in charge of securing web servers if you know how to spell 'Solaris'.
