For the past few weeks, I’ve been meeting with various companies to see if I could better align my UX design with my passion. In my discussions, my passion project of helping people becoming better with their finances often takes center stage. Being in my current position for over 8 years, one thing was absolutely clear and I need to up my game with data visualization. I became fascinated with visualizing mundane monthly budget data to help users discover their own catalyst to fight inertia for healthy behavioral change in combating discretionary spending.
My most recent attempt to break free from boring pie charts is with a senkey chart which does a phenomenal job at representing the flow and movement of data (in this case, incoming and outflow of money over the course of a month).
For anyone interested in financial independence or FIRE, I am pretty certain that the magic to all of this is helping users see for themselves that increasing their monthly saving rate is to key to success. I am currently wrestling with various concepts that focuses on tracking monthly saving rate but branching off into retirement dates, delayed gratification and wishlist management. I am looking forward to developing a prototype to share with anyone interested.
