The stones stood before me- that same shadow from earlier seemed close enough, lurking, spying on me. I couldn't shake the feeling this whole time like I was being followed, being watched by an unseen assailant. The stories told of such, but I had dismissed them as myth and tall tale. I had also written off the existence of these stacked stones- each stone weighed more than a man, cut so as as to stand freely of mortar or other cementing agent. I had found the altar of Gideon, right where the stories said it would be. I heard a twig snap and knew immediately that I was not alone and that I would not be so long as I was here in this sacred place, but what this shade wanted I did not know. Friend or foe?
