Weight Loss Tips – Diet and Exercise
There is a constant debate to whether exercise is better than dieting. But, at a time when obesity is not just affecting adults, but children too, it’s time to analyse the facts and deal with the real issues.
It may seem harsh to say that overweight adults create overweight children, but that is that just happens to be today’s society.
The only way to get fit and healthy is to combine physical exercise with a good diet. Get rid of the myths that you can do one without the other, and you can get guaranteed results that last!
Healthy Eating and Sensible Food Choices
To maintain a healthy lifestyle it’s important to clear out the cupboards and fridge and re-stock the shelves with fresh fruit, vegetables and meat. This means no ready meals, in fact anything that can be cooked in a microwave, except maybe porridge. For a healthy lifestyle to be achieved you need to first of all deal with your diet and realise that doing an hour on the treadmill doesn’t mean you can indulge in fish and chips afterwards.
You might be told that little and often is the best way to eat, or snacking between three square meals in the day is more ideal. Either way is good – as long as it’s fresh, healthy food and your portions aren’t huge, you’ll be eating sensibly. You should make sure that you incorporate protein (lean meat, fish, eggs, nuts, seeds, pulses and cottage cheese), vegetables and small amounts of carbohydrates (potato, wholemeal pasta, rice, wholegrain breads) into your diet. Completely avoid surgery foods – this includes too much fruit, unless you’re doing exercise shortly after when the sugar will be used to create energy.
It really is that simple and it’s about being sensible about the foods you eat. Link this to your activity levels. If you’re on your feet all day you’ll need to consume a slightly higher amount of carbs, and similarly, if you spend a large portion of your day sitting down, you will need less carbs as you won’t be burning as much energy!
