I'm already missing field work! And have been for a while, since the last few weeks of my field season were spent in the office. As gratifying as more responsibility is, it's a lot less fun than being a lowly field tech! ... Here I am amongst a newly discovered population of Actaea arizonica (formerly Cimicifuga arizonica), Arizona bugbane. These rhizomatous perennials are on our Forest rare and sensitive plants list and are closely monitored every year. They're very beautiful and have a slightly citrusy smell that I like. (This is coming from the fact that just after writing the last few sentences of this post I dreamt that an old professor of mine who I was visiting out of the blue told me that he had once known my grandmother, and I was surprised that he remembered her because I never talked about her much)
