I know everybody talks about Enemies to Lovers, but what's your opinion on Lovers/Friends to Enemies?
A++++ The finest of wines 👌
Romance? Kek, screw that. It's been done in all manner of ways. Predictable, slow and not at all exciting. You've seen it once, you've seen it a billion times. And some of you would disagree. You're all romantic like that. But me? I'm a bit choosy when it comes to romance.
This though? This is great. How good friends can turn against one another. How lovers can stab each other. It's tragic, full of angst and often times, you'd never notice unless you were paying close attention.
It's a shame that not a lot of fanfics do it though. People who write angst and darker stuff wouldn't write it because they're often not fans of romance. And people who write romance wouldn't write it because the trope isn't appealing to them.
Let's move away a bit from fanfics and go to original works. You know a very famous duo that uses this trope? Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi. They were a pair of mentor-mentees, a duo of brothers in arms. They respected each other and cared for one another. Episode 3 was tragedy at its finest. The heroes didn't win and the villains got away. But most importantly, the climatic battle between them was sombre and depressing with one brother forced to cut down the other.
Episode 3 was arguably the best of the Star Wars movies IMO. And it was mostly because of this fight alone.
