An Inquisitive Day
Short drabble between an Owl and a Sparrow "Why do you have hair covering your face all the time? Isn't it hard to see? Aren't brown bloods supposed to be brown? You look more like an orangy brown." Owrlyn sighed, continuing to work methodically on making a remedy for colds. She glanced over her shoulder, seeing the inquisitive little sparrow standing expectantly behind her. Seoine was curious about her today, it seemed. "It is occasionally challenging to see, but I like it this way." Well, harder now that she lost some sight in one eye, but it wasn't horrible. Not so much that someone could tell. "And the color is called amber. Though for all intents and purposes, brown is my blood caste, and I'm more than happy to try and fit in. Goddesses know we are already strange enough to others with our appearances." The healer answered, speaking in a very monotoned voice as she worked. "So why don't you like any of Siwane's other moms? You seem grumpier around them all the time. And why are we living with you? Siwane said she used to live between Eri's nest and the underground hive." Seoine continued her questioning, firing off more before rocking back on her talons excitedly. Owrlyn supposed she never answered these questions before. Besides, the little house Martin that Seoine has as a Hatchmate to never questioned much that her guardians did- much less the healer. "I don't.... Dislike.. Them. Distrust would be a better word, I suppose? Animosity... Maybe." Did she seem like she disliked them? She really didn't. Cyeryl would know by now that she was loved a lot by the owl. In a maternal sort of way. She got along fine with the fox, sort of. She just doesn't stay near her for very long and that worked. Shanae was-... Shanae... Owrlyn really didn't know anymore about what she thought about her. Oh well, there was plenty of time to sit on that thought. "I simply don't like to be around others for an extended period of time." The owl was about to answer the third question, before being cut off with "but if you dislike other trolls, why are you letting us stay here?" Owrlyn blinked, set her supplies down, and turned around. Even with her hair down, the disapproving and irritated expression conveyed her emotions clearly enough. "Fledgling, do not twist my words when I give you clear answers. I like other trolls, else I wouldn't have pledged my life to healing. I just do not like being /around/ others very long. You and Siwane are here because I have room to let you both stay here indefinitely, and Cyeryl asked me." Owrlyn huffed, almost indignantly, before getting back to her work. Presently she only needed to bottle the resulting powder for long term storage. "Okay... But do you like us?" Seoine prompted as the owl went to go off and put her medicine into basement storage. Owrlyn stopped, seeming to ponder this quietly. She could almost feel the disappointment from the sparrow before turning around. The healer picked up Seoine, and carefully set the small giggling fledging on her shoulders. With her inquisitive 'daughter' balanced and holding on, Owrlyn started back to her storage rooms. "Perhaps." Extra: "So does this mean you won't kick us out?" "Child, even if I wanted to do that, I'm fairly certain it's too late to consider it."
