ღ we were young and free || dara & yuri
When she was little, Dara believed she was one of the luckiest girls in the world. All the other girls she knew had just the one best friend, but she had two; one was, of course, her little brother. The other was Yuri.
Dara had to admit, she was always the type of person that needed someone to look after them, and for the years Yuri was by her side, she was the one Dara turned to. The two girls had grown up side by side in neighbouring houses. She remembered entire days spent climbing trees, playing dress up, dancing along to pop CDs. She remembered walking home from school together. She remembered feeling small and powerless as she watched Yuri get through the experience of losing her mother. And she remembered the first year they went through without each other; the excitement of going to middle school had been spoiled as soon as they had found out they would not be going together. Yuri was to go to school in Seongnam, leaving Dara behind.
To comfort Dara, Yuri had promised over and over that nothing would change, that they would be able to continue being as close as they were. But of course, things never turn out the way people hope. Somehow, the two lost contact, and now, middle school, high school, and the first two years of college had passed; Dara had no idea what Yuri was up to now. She had thought about the girl a lot when she came to Seongnam herself, to attend college, but realistically, it was possible that Yuri wasn’t even in Seongnam anymore, there was every possibility she had moved again to attend a different college.
Because of this, Dara almost didn’t recognise the other girl when they met, for the first time in about eight years. And of all places, it was in Self-Defense class.
They had been told to get into partners, and Dara had turned with a smile to the girl nearest her. Something about the girl’s face made Dara’s heart jump – it seemed familiar, but also not. Then the girl smiled back, and she was sure.
“Yuri!”
Friendship Project | Jiwon & Yuri
For your finals project, discuss C.S Lewis’ "Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art... It has no survival value; rather it is one of those things that give value to survival." As one student argues for pro and other argues for con, provide rebuttals and offer main points. Final paper will be due on the last day of finals week.
Disbelief washed over Jiwon when she read who her assigned partner was: Kwon Yuri. Don’t get Jiwon wrong, Yuri was nice in class, nice in talking, nice in presenting herself with her pretty hair and pretty smile and pretty face; nice in general. But that was the problem when it came to Jiwon having to work with Yuri: she was so nice, too damn nice that Jiwon didn’t exactly know how to acquaint herself with the said student. It wasn’t always an eye to eye meet when it came to working with others but at least Yuri was more hostile when it came to failing others and herself. That was always nice to know, especially if the work assigned involved not just one, but two students.
She slammed her locker shut and took a deep breath because she knows she was going to need it. Hanging herself around girls was never her thing. The inconsistent drama, the nonstop backstabbing, the neverending— basically, everything women shouldn’t even be worrying about. Those weren’t just clicking it when it came to Jiwon and when it came to making friend with the same sex, she became a nit picky prick. Turning on her heel, she eyed the familiar library doors, a crowd of jocks clamouring for attention from the opposite sex. Jiwon moved past them, vigilant with a permanent frown plastered to her face. Pulling on the knob, she twisted it open, eyes watchful for her Philosophy partner.
