I saw you mention a modern au in some tags. Do you have anything planned??

Oh man.

Yes actually,,, I do. I have no idea if I'm ever going to actually do anything with it, but I'm tempted to play around with it for sure :)

The premise would be less adapting the canon story and more like throwing the squad into Situations with a modern setting. So, magical internet? Cellphones? Videogames? Yes, all there, but it's intertwined with FR magic. Baldur’s Gate would be a modern city just like cities with old, historical buildings are; the closer you get to the coast, the older the structures and roads.

In what I have so far, Sephina and Lya would be Astarion’s new neighbors in the apartment next to his. They’d try to act like upstanding citizens while absolutely being a part of BG underground. Because the city is so much bigger now, and the underground even more fractured and sprawling, they’ve yet to bump into each other until then.

Lya would be younger (15) and fresh out of the Hells (Sephina would be 36), so this wouldn't be a super lighthearted AU, as it would explore trauma responses and recovery, both for Lya and Astarion, as well as growing up and struggling to acclimate to a completely different culture.

Astarion is recovering from years of sexual abuse and sex trafficking by his step-dad (Cazador), and has just been accepted into law school. Sephina just literally went to hell and back for her missing sister and is doing research on her weird magic and unbound characteristics. She’s also a yoga and parkour instructor at a local studio.

Astarion and Sephina would have nighttime fire escape talks, slowly learning about each other; Astarion learning what it's like to have an actual friend who wants him around. They would decide to work together to acclimate him to touch, as he has a panic attack in college when someone comes up behind him and touches his shoulder to get his attention, giving ample opportunity for Soft Moments and Deep Conversations. They begin movie nights that later becomes a big group affair.

Sephina would basically drag him along to her favorite hangout spot, a local library/coffeeshop hybrid run by ex-sharran Shadowheart, where they would meet Gale (a college professor specializing in Weave Theory and a big fan of their books and coffee combo), Wyll (he's rebelling from his dad but in the most soft and sheltered private-school way possible, so this nerd goes to hang out in a fuckin coffee shop library like a TRUE bad ass), Karlach (an orphan in the foster care system in Jaheira’s foster house, dealing with chronic health issues who's going to Lya’s highschool) and Lae’zel (exchange student in Lya’s highschool who’s also experiencing culture shock like Lya, as well as realizing and coming to grips with the fact that she has been a part of a cult for most of her life).

Because of the bigger age differences, the story would follow the two age groups; the teens, Lya(15), Wyll(15), Karlach(16), Lae’zel(14) and adults Astarion(150), Sephina(36), Shadowheart(32), and Gale(40). It would focus on the forming and maintaining of relationships while in recovery, finding who you are in both kid and an adult perspectives, while also exploring the fact that the kids would have adults in their life that would be supportive and (sort of) stable role models, and the adults would have kids that they have to be role models to.

As you can see, I have thought of this a lil bit 😂

But anyway, yeah, I have this brewing in the back of my mind like a witch’s brew and I might end up doing some artwork of it or something for now? Who knows :)
