No.9 - The Hermit. 🏔🧙🏼♂️🌟 This was a design I was lucky enough to be asked to do for the #septarot2019 project, where a bunch of artists are contributing to a Tarot deck throughout September - well worth a peak @septarot. The Hermit symbolises soul-searching, solitude, introspection, preparation but when reversed signifies isolation, procrastination & withdrawal. I’ve included the original Rider Waite version of the Tarot (which I wanted to stay pretty close to so the card could be ‘read’ similarly) as well as the inspiration for the piece by Gustave Dore (an illustration for Edgar Alan Poe’s poem- the Raven). I thought this image perfectly fit the ‘reversed’ connotations of the Hermit - the shining lamp becoming an hour glass; the once upright glowing staff now a horizontal scythe and the old man, wasted away - so I did an ‘upright’ version of that. The black raven in Dore’s becomes a white dove in this one. Now that’s as clear as mud, all’s left to say is I’m really enjoying tarot cards so I’ll definitely be doing a few more soon ✌️ #tarot #tarotcards #illustration #artistsoninstagram #darkillustration #digitalart #procreate #lowbrowart #ipadpro #dailydrawings #riderwaitetarot #thehermit #sketch #sketchbook #nine #xi #edgarallanpoe #majorarcana (at The Edge at Alderly Edge) https://www.instagram.com/p/B2W6_9cj9Ue/?igshid=4u0llvbyw73z
