“Stod?” Bucopper called softly, looking around for his bestest friend. He could sniff ‘im out, easily, and sneak up on ‘im from behind the way they used to when they were pups, but he wasn’t entirely sure he was ready for this. In the few years they’d been apart, Bucopper with his new, mean owners, he’d changed a lot. There were scars on him, many of them, his bark was deeper, he was bigger, studier, smarter – he was also wounded, permanently so, with a fake left leg that hurt what remained of his real one – he’d become a hunting dog.

He wasn’t ready to find out what his bestest and only friend would think of him, now.
