seraphina's former foster family were the first people to call them a guardian angel of sorts. now their children and children's children remember them as one too. the family is known to keep pink ribbons or flowers in sera's honor. seraphina blessed the family line with a boon of protection for as long as they are able to maintain it.
suddenly gaining the sensory input of a deity has been quite a difficult adjustment, and seraphina often finds themself deeply overstimulated and enraged by the environment before they realize what is happening. as a result, they self medicate. they keep sunglasses on to mitigate light sensitivity and music playing through headphones to soften background noises at almost all times.
pink is their signature color.
seraphina skateboards everywhere. they take so much pleasure in feeling the wind, sun, rain, or snow directly on their skin when they're traveling. they like how it feels to use the gritty architecture of the city to propel them at unreasonable speeds. they like how it feels to crash. skating is second only to actually flying in their opinion.
biography:
tw: drugs, death, fire, child neglect
Conceived on a tour bus somewhere between Sin City and the City of Angels, Seraphina Amitola was born into bright lights and fast lives. The rock scene of the late seventies and early eighties set the stage for a big, bold grand entrance. Their father was a well-known musician whose star was still on the rise, and their mother was a cut throat manager pinching every penny he made to propel them all forward. The two only hopped into a shotgun wedding when they realized a baby was on the way.
Life on the road wasn’t what anyone would call a typical childhood. Fame, money, music, and fun ruled every aspect of Seraphina’s early life. It was a haze of blissful memories punctuated by jarring moments of sharp contrast in between. Their parents had substance abuse problems. Both had severe jealousy, raging tempers, and bad nights on the road; all thinly veiled around ‘the baby’. At six, Seraphina had seen more of life than some sixty year olds who had never left their suburban neighborhoods.
Eventually, their parents were busted by law enforcement. There was no plea or bribe that could stop the consequence of being caught. Seraphina was taken away and held by the state. Then, they were placed into foster care. It was a sudden and irrevocable paradigm shift. ‘Reality’, where everyone but the Amitola family seemed to live, was a lot different from life on tour. The first few foster homes didn’t work out well for anyone. While trying to figure out how to exist in this level of blandness, they were labelled as a spoiled, problem child. Their parents promised Sera would be back on the road with them as soon as they sobered up and finished their programs. It never happened.
As a teen, Seraphina was finally placed in a home that felt more permanent. Good people with four kids of their own who decided later to adopt another. Then signed up to foster three ‘high needs’ children after that. All kind, patient, and humble kids in a way that insisted their success was the very reason such an old ‘brat’ was chosen to be placed here. Clearly a last ditch effort, but an effort that worked. They finally began to finally feel some sense of stability only for it to swiftly go up in flames.
When coming home from after school gymnastics every radio was suddenly warning about wildfires in the area- encouraging evacuation. Sera walked from the bus stop knowing their foster parents wouldn’t be home from work for a few hours yet. Maybe, as the oldest in the house, they’d start packing up the rest of the kids. A good plan, right? At least it would have been had Seraphina not approached to see the house already engulfing in flame. One kid stood on the lawn, staring up at the growing danger with shell-shocked fear. Without a second thought, they sprinted into the building.
Seraphina shouted at anyone on the first floor to run to the lawn, to get out, flee and stay together. Two kids in the kitchen heard and ran without aid. At the end of the hallway, there was a bedroom door closed just beyond fire licking up with each breath. Sera scalded their palm on the doorknob before kicking the door open with the flat of their foot. The broader part of their shin and thigh taking the brunt of the burn damage. They barrelled into the room and pulled another kid to the front door. Still, more were in the house.
The steps were already cindering as Sera bounded up them two at a time. Each step felt unstable. Each rising degree made it harder and harder to breathe. Someone crying in the bathroom pulled their attention. One kid hiding in the tub crawled onto Seraphina’s back; the other took their hand. There was a window in their own bedroom with lattice and vines easy enough for even a couple of scared kids to climb down. The problem was the window didn’t budge very easily. Instead of wasting time trying to force it open, Sera punched a fist through the glass, lacerating their forearm in the process, but it allowed for a clear exit.
Seraphina crawled a step through the window too, as no one could stay in this heat for much longer, when a shrill cry pierced right through the crackling wood. Black spots had begun to invade their vision, but they pushed through every ache and instinct to the last room of the house. The youngest of the lot was trapped in the corner with a terrified look. Sera shouldered their way through the now collapsing rubble, finally scenting the searing flesh, and snatched the kid into their arms. The only option now was a balcony at the back of the house. Sera stumbled and wanted to heave, but eventually made it through the door. As the supports began to buckle beneath them, they launched themself from the balcony, cradled the kid against their chest, and turned their back to brace for the ground’s impact.
A young Seraphina Amitola lost consciousness in that moment and never awoke again. They died in the hospital after succumbing to the injuries they sustained. In an instant of divinity, the experience of a new existence was offered to them. A chance to use that pure, undiluted instinct of protection forever- a new deity born from the ashes of a rather tragic life. Seraphina- the guardian angel. How could they not accept?
The divine realm, while an incredible backdrop to learn how to become a new self, never really felt like a place they belonged. Too many eyes stared in disapproval at their brashness, their candor, their violence, their youth. They resented it a bit. Why did it always feel like they were forced to hold some part of themself back? At the first opportunity, Sera hopped ship to Vievecor City. They have not been here long, all things considered. Without watching eyes and expectations, they experimented. Seraphina now flourishes in the city, but struggles to find the line between freedom and frivolity; flirting with corruption while trying to figure out if it was even possible to help the world at this point.
wanted connections:
in another life || someone who feels so eerily familiar that surely they must have met in another lifetime or something. maybe it is someone who knew seraphina before becoming a deity and is trying to remember.
booty call || it's just really not that deep... or maybe it is. it could be super complicated, actually. still, you up?
platonic codependents || these two need each other to survive for some reason. there are few boundaries and fewer secrets. no judgment no matter how awful the scenario.
