[ I didn't know there were so many Judith/Flynn shippers... I mean, I have a Judith to do it with, but she's ALSO my Estelle, which is who Flynn is shipped with, which is why I'm so hesitant-- ]
((I have been doing fireballs I...didn't even realize I could still do slam attacks when Mikhail was fully airborn haha wow I'm an idiot ok. But yeah I'll just keep plugging away at it and I'll probably get lucky eventually maybe :')
and I guess I'll be prepared to get annoyed some more if I ever actually get to round two lmao.))
casually places estelle here because I have a thing for raven and estelle I don't know why I just do (platonically)
Yes hello, today is Cherry gushing over Raven brotps day
ooooh man Estelle is a hugely complicated important relationship with Raven I don’t know where to even begin okay so
Schwann tends to keep his distance from most people, but you don’t exactly tell the Princess to go away if she comes looking for you. Schwann does a lot of travelling after all, and she loves hearing his stories about the outside world. In exchange she’d be the voice that’d scold him when she catches him staying up too late and is constantly telling him to relax and recommending some good books she’s read because Schwann always seems so serious and down on himself when she knows he can be a lot more.
Although he’d remain somewhat cold and stiffly formal with her for the duration of their time together, I think he enjoys her attention and company. During this period he’d see her as someone hopelessly naive and sheltered, and kind of envies her oblivious innocence.
This view of her is greatly challenged as he joins the party later on and travels at her side. True, she was very sheltered and knew little of the outside world but she learned quickly, her wanderlust never dying. Despite everything she saw in the world, it didn’t change her as he thought it would; she was still kind, selfless but never blindly so. She was smart; she learned, she grew but she never let the world crush her.
When she was told that she was a poison upon the world and needed to die, she acknowledged that if that must be the case then so be it but only if all other options fail. She’s willing to do what’s necessary but she won’t just give up and allow her fate to be decided by others without her trying first.
She’s so much stronger than he ever knew and so much stronger than he is. She wants to live, and see the world with boundless curiosity.
When Raven took Estelle to Alexei, he did so as Schwann. I think she would have made the connection immediately. After spending so much time with raven and seeing the old First captain again, how could she not recognize his face? I think she would have been confused, but trusted him and followed along; he seemed so serious, and sad.
I’d like to point out that at this point of the story, I interpret him as having thrown away his Raven persona after the death of the Don. In a sense he gave up entirely, including what little control he felt he had in his life and gave it to Alexei. People are capable of doing terrible things under this kind of mindset, because the fault and blame can be shoved onto a figure of authority.
So that’s why he was able to go ahead with it, but I think that it never sat well on his conscience despite his attempts to explain it away. That it was necessary, that Estelle was bad for the world and that Alexei’s plans would make everything better.
At Baction though, seeing her hurt and screaming was something that twisted at him and never went away. I like to interpret Schwann as having fought with his all at Baction, and I think he did; but his heart wasn’t into it. He fought with his best because there was no going back anymore, and the quicker he ended things the quicker everything would just end and he won’t have to think about that anymore.
I can write another essay on what exactly changed his mind but Yuri managed it and he saved everyone with the intention to die but then he didn’t. He now has to face the consequences of his actions.
We never got to see the reunion between Raven and Estelle in the game, only Raven telling us that she had smacked him. But in Raven’s audio book though, we hear the entire encounter. I might not understand a word of what happened but it was amazing. Raven beginning to awkwardly apologize, and sounding so regretful-
And Estelle pulls him into a hug.
YOU CAN HEAR THE HUG AND RAVEN’S SHOCK AND HER FORGIVENESS.
I don’t know what Raven expected, but I don’t think he saw that coming. He didn’t think that anyone could forgive the kind of thing he had done to her but Estelle does. Estelle has that amazing empathy, that ability to see and why Raven did what he did, and by no means does she think it justifies those actions but she can understand. She’s willing to still trust him, know that he doesn’t mean her any harm and give him a second chance.
He really needed that. I don’t think he’d be able to live with himself without some kind of clean reconciliation with her. He saw a true friend, maybe for the first time on this journey and realized that he doesn’t have to be alone that he doesn’t have to hide. She even diffused the situation in the way he normally does; with lighthearted humour in the form of a solid smack.
Estelle is second chances and the wonder that still exists in the world. Estelle is guilt, forgiveness, acceptance and taking ownership of one's own actions. Estelle is being more than the circumstances of your birth and the events in your life.
