My Favorite Films About Art

Here is another list of my favorites! This is a list of my favorite films about art or artists. The ones I have chosen have all left a lasting impression on me.

1. What Dreams May Come- Although the film is about a fictional artist, the lines of reality and the afterlife are blurred through love and painting. The scene above is one of my favorite scenes in the film.

2. Frida- The life of Frida Kahlo and the experiences that shaped her art come to life in this film. The video above is a montage of clips from the movie set to a song from the soundtrack.

3. The Pillow Book- The human body is used to carry messages through the use of calligraphy in this film. The video above is a trailer for the movie.

4. The Agony and the Ecstasy- The story of Michelangelo during his commission to paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. The above trailer shows his struggle with creating his work.

5. The Red Violin- The crafting of the violin and the history of its journey in this movie is a work of art.

6. Seraphine- Based on the true story of painter Seraphine de Senlis, a housekeeper with a talent to paint is discovered by the art collector she cleans for.

Those are my top art films! I am hoping to discover more to add to this collection. I do also like Pollack, Basquiat, Surviving Picasso, Modigliani, Girl with a Pearl Earring and Great Expectations but the 6 I picked above are the ones I love the most. Which are your favorite art films?
