Spotlight #19 - SeraphofShadows (Seraph)
1. Tell us a bit about yourself: Hi~ I’m Veronica, or better known on here as Seraph. I’m a 21 year old Australian who has way too much free time on her hands and loves spending a lot of that free time drawing things that I love.
2. When did you get into the fandom and how did you stumble upon it? I saw someone on tumblr reblog an update from the comic about 2 years ago now and I was intrigued so I clicked on the blog and ended up reading the entire thing. The fandom specifically came about 6 months later when I drew my first artwork of Angel Mike.
3. Who are your favorite characters/pairings? Favourite character is without a doubt angle Mike despite the fact that I also want to punch his face half the time. I love him. Aside from him, I really love Lucifer and Nat. I don’t actually ship anyone ( surprise surprise) and just want them all to be happy and friends with each other instead please. I need that friendship in my life.
4. Favorite moment in the comic? I know everyone always says run but .. considering my favourite is angel Mike, the one moment that stands out for me is when Nat runs into Mike and Gabe at the coffee shop right in the early days of the comic. Because first off, I love that Nat is so not amused by Mike (who is also so confused by that) and the way Luce reacts to the whole thing is amazing as well.
5. What is your biggest inspiration as far as your art goes? One of the things that inspires me the most is concept art. I wouldn’t say my art really reflects that but I have about 5 art books for various movies and games which always inspire me to draw more whenever I look at them. One day I’d love to become a concept artist so that style is something I want to work on in the future but regardless, it is still something that inspires me a lot.
6. What would you say is your favorite piece that you’ve done so far? For Satan and Me, my favourite piece would definitely be this one that I did as a request and it got so out of hand.. But I had a lot of fun doing it and it provided a great challenge. It’s probably the closest I’ve ever come to being able to draw exactly what I had imagined.
7. What would you say is one of your favorite things to draw/write? Anyone who has followed me for long enough probably knows the answer to this. I love drawing portraits of my fave characters. Portraits, portraits and more portraits. And with these portraits, I love to play around with colour schemes a bit and test things out. It’s a really fun thing to do.
8. What do you think influences your art style? This is a difficult question for me. I don’t have any one artist or style of art that influences me. However, I do really love the use of colour in art and that is something I try and bring to every artwork I do. Playing around with bright green lighting vs cold blue lighting vs warm orange lighting is a ton of fun and I feel it’s something that makes my portraits a little bit more unique to. So that is certainly something I try and bring across in my art style and the love of colours has influenced the way I draw.
9. What are some of your hobbies you enjoy? Aside from art, I spend my free time mostly playing League of legends (I know I know - but I have a group of friends I play with and I have a ton of fun with it. I also am so in love with some of the character designs from it *cough* kindred and aurelion sol *cough*). I also work on cosplays, sometimes I do some writing, and I’ve also recently gotten into D&D. I’m actually partway through writing my own D&D campaign for my friends!
10. Before joining SaM, what was a fandom you were part of and are there any fandoms you’re into outside of SaM? Honestly, I’m the kind of person who sits on the sidelines in fandoms. I draw some art of my faves, follow some cool artists from the fandom, but otherwise I stay mostly out of it. However, for things that I’m into outside of SaM, I will always love Les Miserables, Dishonored, Star Wars and a whole range of other things. Really anything I’ve drawn art for I love to some extent. I always enjoy finding new fandoms and things to love, especially since I always find some amazing new artists to follow.
11. Is there anything else you’d like the fandom to know about you or anything you’d like to say to the fandom as a whole? This fandom is amazing. The amount of love everyone gives each other is something I really admire and it is something that most other fandoms lack. Although I often don’t participate in Samily stuff, I do always smile whenever I see posts for it (whether it’s art, fic or just general posts). Keep up the awesome work Samily and don’t be afraid to come into my messages and chat~ I’d love to get to know you guys more!
