Fallout 4: Institute Headcanons

I was talking with my hermano, @serenity2132 and we kept discussing the Boogeyman of the Commonwealth, the Institute.

MIT has more departments than hard science.  It has a ton of OTHER ones, as you can see here, it features a full selection of the arts and soft sciences.  You don’t really see these departments in The Institute, so what happened?

With Ethics style classes on the chopping block first with those who couldn't be moved to other departments were retired forcibly, sometimes fatally. 

Econ, humanities, and the PoliSci department... well PoliSci and STS merged to PoliSTS and they were behind the early overtures to contact the surface.  Those were legit.  They wanted to start up society again.  They wanted to use what they had to help the Commonwealth.  Their passion for this idea was NOT popular.  The Synth they sent to the CPG, the PoliSTS department was excited for the prospect of starting Democracy up in the Commonwealth again and were sure they were safe from being axed like the other softer sciences because their warnings were what saved the staff and family of CIT back before the bombs fell.  Their models predicting war. 

Their models for the CPG were relatively positive. Given the chaos that early governments normally have, giving way to stability and growth of the human race.

Despite that, the representative they sent murdered everyone there.  After that, the PolicSTS department was liquidated.  It gave way to the Institute we know and hate (or love? I dunno) today.

Thoughts?

Also, I totally want to write up the character who was the head of the PoliSTS department when this all went down.

On sexualities, breakups, and more

Time for yours truly to whine some more on the internet, since I’m at that dumb stage of “tired but not sleepy” part of the night.

So, not too long ago, before my dumbass broke my arm and rib and other things I’ll discuss here happened, had been thinking about things. About my sexuality and the like. See, I pretty much went through my life pretty sure I was just straight. Pretty simple, right? Find those who consider themselves women sexually attractive, simple as that, right?

Well, I had been thinking about something that had happened in my life, and a bit of a realization. See, I had never thought about it because I had always gone on the assumption above. But...while I was in a relationship with someone, before then I had an odd fondness for someone else. A guy. Someone who was already in a relationship, so I hadn’t given it more thought than that. However, two things happened that really made me start to think.

1) My girlfriend (at the time, that comes up later) came out to me as both pansexual and genderfluid.

2) I had a realization that I was attracted to the gentleman in question at the time. And still was, in the “old crush” sense.

My reaction to both was a very significant “And?”

It didn’t bother me that my girlfriend (she still favored female pronouns) wasn’t a “girl” in the sense I thought at first. It didn’t bother me that I had the realization that I was attracted to a man. But in my thoughts, I started to wonder where my orientation really lied. And after a good deal of thought, thinking of my relationships (two) and people I had been interested in (three more beyond that), I didn’t think I fit being straight anymore. And what all five of those people had in common was that I had already established an emotional connection to them. I was already friends with them before I started to be attracted to them. My first relationship started after I knew the woman for the better part of a year. The shortest amount of time was still in the range of months. And while I had interest in sex before, it never seemed to the amount that everyone else was interested in save those I was invested in previously.

So, in the end, I read up on it, and one of the things talked about almost precisely that: demisexuality. It wasn’t quite 100%, but it was close enough that it feels right.

However, the realization didn’t change the fact that, well, shit was going downhill with my relationship. My girlfriend had burned the bridges with the other roommates, several of whom are people she had known longer than me and had been friends with them even longer than I had known any of them beforehand, and was looking for a new place. The catch that had already been a strain was that she had a friend, a coworker, that she had already started to look at apartments with.

She did this without once saying a thing to me. I would have gone with her, without question, but she didn’t once say a thing to me. And...to let anyone reading this know how serious I was about her, as soon as the school year ended I was going to start pricing rings. I have been engaged once in my life, and the idea hadn’t bothered me at all being married to her. But...then things just exploded. She was given 90 days to leave. Then in an act of what I can only describe as dramatic bullshit, she acted in such a way over personal chores that she got into a shouting match with several others in the house, declared that she was no longer friends with them, and had that moved down to 30 days.

This was over light chores, mind you. Chores light enough for me even with my broken arm and rib. And this was the hill she decided to throw it all away on. And I was pissed. She decided that this was the thing she wanted to fight. Not to stay there with me. Not more time so that i could join in on an apartment hunt. Fucking CHORES. And all of my frustration with her came to the surface and it was there that our relationship of three and a half years was ended. This was early February. She moved out at the very end of March, because she asked for an extension.

And so now here I am. A very turbulent three months later I find myself growing comfortable with saying that I am demisexual, and now I am without a significant other.

In which Serenity counts the breaks.

So, yesterday, I posted a selfie of myself in a sling. Because my dumb ass went over the handlebars of my bike. I busted up my right armn really good and smacked my ribs as well. When I went to UrgentCare to get the arm x-ray’d, I was told that I had an arm fracture.

Well, the doctor called me today to say that in reviewing the x-rays it looks like I also fractured a rib.

Sooo...yay me.
