i'm a little leery to talk about it just because it seems so intrinsically antithetical to what salinger wanted™ and you could make a strong argument for its inherent emotional manipulation, etc., etc., but i'd be lying if i said that sergeant salinger's "explanation" for the motif of young innocent girl children in his works didn't pack the biggest emotional gut punch i've ever experienced, fictionalized or not
