woah I spent so long without using tumblr that I forgot how it works
aesthetic furry, woman who doesn't want marriage or kids, don't believe in the Biblical version of God/ Heaven/ Hell, fine with abortion under certain circumstances, fine with 420 if a medical condition, understands America ain't great for health care. but agree with anti sjw/ anti feminism/ you need dysphoria to transition.
Gimme label.
how do i make my brain think that my thesis readings which are actually super interesting are the 3am wikipedia clickhole it manages to focus perfectly well on and not ~thesis readings~
Friends, lovers, comrades-in-arms: I need your opinions!
So I’m due to begin a new draft of one of my older novels, and I’m having trouble with my MC’s parents. Basically, there is one Dead Parent and one Living Parent and I can’t decide on their genders/sexualities because there are trope or message problems with every pairing so far (and yes, someone has to be dead because it’s integral to Events). Choices are as follows:
wlw - As much as I like really this pairing, it falls under both the Bury Your Gays and Dead Mother on a Pedestal tropes. Yikes.
mlm - Again, Bury Your Gays. I do like the idea of a nurturing male figure, because it’s still not as common.
hetero couple (dead mom) - This was my original pairing way back in 2011 when I originally came up with the concept. It’s alright, but it hits that Dead Mother on a Pedestal nail right on the head.
hetero couple (dead dad) - This is the pairing from the last draft, and in some ways it’s my favorite. We get to see a fierce, overly serious, sometimes cold/vicious mother figure and a soft, nurturing father figure. Dead Fathers also aren’t as common as Dead Mothers. The problem with this pairing is that the Living Parent is still grief-stricken five years later, to the point where they’ve refused to continue doing their Very Important Job (which falls to the MC). I’m worried about the message that it sends about a woman’s dependency.
I welcome all constructive input, because for real guys: I have no clue what to do. This stings no matter which way you pick it up.
*NOTE* These are very basic pairings. For simplicity’s sake, I didn’t include the possibility of a parent or parents who are trans or non-binary, but they’re definitely not excluded. Either way, they won’t be the Dead Parent for the same reason I’m hesitant to use a wlw or mlm pairing (Bury Your Gays). If any of this is insensitive or offensive, please let me know and help me rephrase it!
