In TV and movies you always hear about soldiers being discharged after their humvee runs over a mine -- often killing soldiers or costing them limbs. Any idea how often a military vehicle actually drives over an undetected mine?
Depends on if you’re asking “how often do people run over mines left over from previous wars” or “how often do people blow up from a hidden explosive.” The first question, I have no idea; I imagine it depends on the area (certain locations are more likely to have old minefields) and what kind of mine was used.Nowadays our biggest concern in the Middle East isn’t landmines, it’s IEDs -- improvised explosive devices. Homemade bombs, if you will. These can be anything from an empty soda can to a dead animal carcass, so it’s almost impossible to really prevent them. When we had IED training we honestly were told that literally anything could be an IED and we just have to be really vigilant and report anything that looks suspicious, which as I said could mean reporting litter on the side of the road that wasn’t there yesterday, or a dirt pile that looks larger than the rest. That sounds a little extreme until you realize that even local trash collectors are at high risk of being severely injured or killed due to IEDs.How often a vehicle hits an IED depends on a lot of factors, namely the location, the enemy activity in the area, how close you are to enemy territory, how well built the IED was, how cleverly hidden the IED was, and whether it was put in a spot that a soldier would be likely to walk or drive over. Our routes are supposed to be monitored and scouted ahead of time for trouble, but any new route should be presumed trapped. We’ve actually developed specially armored vehicles who exist for the sole purpose of scouting out IEDs. USA Today says we’ve had 3,000 deaths due to IEDs and 33,000 wounded, which is significant when you consider that the US death toll’s currently around 7k and the wounded around 50k. So all things considered, I’d say it’s pretty likely.

Darn it, Oscar, you know you're never gonna see that jacket again. Don't say we didn't warn you.
I dunno. Stranger things have happened.

Yep, it’s a quirk of his. He tends to braid and unbraid his hair as an act of meditation and as a way to make sure he can quickly move his hair out of his way for training or sparring.

Umm, you always seem to know a lot about disabilities and autism, and I was wondering, is there a kind of autism where the person doesn't talk? Not, where the person is quiet, but where the person doesn't talk. I'm sorry, please forgive my ignorance.
Yes, there are non-verbal autistic people. I'm vocal about disabilities, and while I am fascinated by diseases and disorders and disabilities often play a role there, I'm not on the spectrum and I have a lot less experience with it. (Consider it partly because I've grown to see it as well, an alternate operating system. It gets complicated and I stink at articulating it.)
So, autistic followers, care to chime in to elaborate here? You all are probably at least a bit more knowledgeable than me here.
I recently scrolled through the GFH tag again and I realized something. Do you have any ideas about the whole memory-melding of Washington and Epsilon? Or does that not happen in GFH? Or is it a thing that you don't know how/if it's happening?
That doesn't happen in my version of GFH if anything they are just good friends that meet in unfavorable circumstances that give them a rocky start, but it works out in the long run :)
I have a headcannon that, during the year between seasons 5 and 6, when everyone was reassigned, Tucker had to be a midwife for a woman in labor and was actually quite good at it because he was able to put his sex-crazed mind aside and sympathize with her pain.
Tucker has shown a lot of times that when it counts, he doesn’t revert back to his perverse attitude and can be a very good person/soldier. A great example of this, pre s11-12, is when Epsilon is called out to where Church and Caboose are when he’s installed in Carolina. (s10e13)
Tucker says, “Just because you wanna get close to someone doesn’t mean you have to end up inside them!” and there’s a pause and epsilon says
"Oh come on, aren’t you gonna say it?"
and Tucker says, “No because I’m pissed off!”
So, he’s not always sex jokes and what not….This is further shown in s11-12. But anyway, I think your head canon fits perfectly.
